Dear Petri, a new elemental analyzer would be a strong addition to E&G. I have one in my Alaska lab that I now use for my Finland samples-such as reindeer forage C/N and for soil C/N. 1000 per year for all my projects. Because the unit (Costec-the band I would recommend) is in my lab and operated by a project research technician, the only cost is the helium tanks (carrier gases) that I pay from my projects as well.

Typically if you send samples to a lab that does C/N for a fee, they charge ~$10-15 USD but that depends upon whether the sample has been ground and weighed out into the foil cups. The preparation takes time and usually we involve undergraduates in paid positions to help in this way.
