Subject: FACS core RDI service during coronavirus safety regulations
Dear All
Core facilities provide essential services (The University of Oulu Guidelines on Research, Development and Innovation) and
therefore also the FACS-core operation continues with the following guidelines:
Individual usage of the FACS machines is possible.
Max 2 persons at time in the room, keep the 3 m distance. Therefore check all (3) FACS machine reservations in Asimov.
There is no guidance for analyses or sorting by the machines.
The operators (of the analyzers and the sorter) can run your samples when the sorting protocol is agreed beforehand.
All data processing and analysis should be performed offline/home.
Virpi can provide data analysis help remotely.
[FACS-sorting service is available according to the new guidelines 1. Inform Virpi by e-mail ( virpi.glumoff(a)oulu.fi ) about your sorting needs one week before the planned sorting day. * Cell type (species, tissue, primary or cell line) * Number of cell lines * Number of cells to be sorted / cell line * Which fluorophores have been used to label the cells * Number of populations to be sorted (1-4) * Type of collection (6 - 96 well plate, 1.5 - 4 ml tube, 15 ml Falcon) 2. Latest three (3) days before the due date, confirm the exact sorting day and time. 3. If you have to cancel the sorting make it latest by 16:00 on the previous day. 4. The operator will run the samples and pass the sorted samples to you after a phone call. Please, provide your phone number in the e-mail.]<mailto:virpi.glumoff@oulu.fi>
The researchers who are trained to use FACSAriaIIIu and are able to sort themselves should inform Virpi about their sorting plans and make the reservation in Asimov.
Asimov is now open also for FACSAriaIIIu reservations for the trained users. You cannot reserve the operator (Virpi or Sirpa) by Asimov :)
FACS -core facility is open for analysis and sorting under these circumstances by following strict safety regulations given by the University of Oulu https://patio.oulu.fi/en/news/detailed-regulations-working-university-premi…
When you enter the 2nd floor premises:
Please remember the rule: one person at a time by the door
"Upon entry, each person must log in with his/her personal identification (electric key / ID card) to open the door.
* When a door is opened, only one person at a time can enter."
When working in the FACS core room follow these instructions:
- use the equipment only if you have made the reservation
- max 2 persons at a time in the room
- keep at least 3 meters distance to others or wear a face mask (not provided) if working in pairs
- wear clean gloves (not provided)
- there is Saran wrap (Elmu-kelmu) available to cover the keyboard and mouse during your work.
- clean all working surfaces with 70% EtOH or 70% isopropanol before and after the work
Let's work together in a safe way

Hei, (in English below)
Histologian laboratorion käyttöä rajoitetaan yliopiston ohjeiden mukaisesti https://patio.oulu.fi/fi/yliopisto/ajankohtaiset-teemat/koronavirus
******************
The use of the histology laboratory is restricted according to the university's instructions https://patio.oulu.fi/en/university/topical-themes/coronavirus
Laboratory 479B may only employ 3 people at a time and everyone must ensure the safety distance of 3 meters. Therefore, the reservation in Asimov and the use of equipment is restricted as follows:
* Casting and staining stations must not be used at the same time
* Only one of the microtomes can be reserved through Asimov and used at the time. The user can choose which one of the two microtomes she/he uses on site
* Notice also that the dissection microscope and the microtome or the computer with VisioPharm program cannot not be used at the same time because of their close proximity
Clean gloves are worn when working in the histology laboratory. Surfaces and equipment are cleaned with 70% EtOH before and after use.
Thank you for the cooperation, stay healthy and have a Happy Easter!

Hyvät tutkijat,
Business Finland vastaa corona-kriisiin tarjoamalla tutkimusorganisaatioille mahdollisuuden hakea tilapäistä Co-Creation -rahoitusta koronakriisin aiheuttamien haasteiden ratkaisemiseen. Rahoitusta voi hakea 30.6.2020 asti.
Projekteissa voidaan tehdä pilotointeja, kokeiluja, validointia ja soveltavaa julkista tutkimusta.
Rahoitettavien projektien on liityttävä kiinteästi koronakriisin aiheuttamien haasteiden ratkaisemiseen ja ratkaisujen liiketoiminnalliseen hyödyntämiseen muuttuvassa maailmassa.
Tilapäistä rahoitusta on mahdollista hakea ratkaisuihin, jotka liittyvät:
* Koronakriisissä apua tuoviin ratkaisuihin.
* Toimialojen (esimerkiksi matkailuala, kuluttajaliiketoiminta ja terveydenhuoltoala) liiketoiminnan uudistamistarpeisiin, jotka aiheutuvat koronakriisistä ja joiden työstämisestä on odotettavissa yritysten uudistumista ja kilpailukyvyn kehittämistä.
* Business Finlandin rahoitusosuus on 80% projektille hyväksytyistä kokonaiskustannuksista.

Dear researchers,
Business Finland responds to the corona crisis by offering research organizations an opportunity to apply for temporary Co-Creation funding to address the challenges caused by the corona crisis.
Funding can be applied for until June 30th, 2020.
Projects can include pilots, experimentations, validations and applied public research.
The projects to be funded must be closely linked to tackling the challenges caused by the corona crisis and to commercializing the solutions in a changing world.
It is possible to apply for temporary funding for solutions related to:
* Solutions that help in the corona crisis.
* Renewal of industries (e.g. tourism, consumer business and healthcare) affected by the corona crisis, cases where a leap of competiveness within companies can be expected.
Temporary funding is not intended for projects already identified before the corona crisis.
Funding criteria
The criteria and conditions for corona crisis financing are otherwise the same as for Co-Creation projects<https://www.businessfinland.fi/en/for-finnish-customers/services/funding/co…> in general, but with the following exceptions:
* Business Finland's funding covers 80% of the total eligible costs of the project.
* The total eligible cost of an individual or joint Co-Creation project (idea) may not exceed EUR 300,000. A joint project may consist of projects from one or more research organizations. Each participating organization must submit its own application.
* In a joint project, the research organizations draw up a joint project plan, which is attached to each organization's application.
* Actions may be, as in normal Co-Creation projects, but in addition, the projects can include applied industrial research.
* Applications: the partners of joint project must submit their applications at the same time. Top of the heading "Korona Co-Creation", followed by a common identifier if the same project involves several research organizations.

Subject: Follow-up: 10x Genomics - single cell sequencing technology seminar material
Dear all,
I have received a pdf-file of the webinar slides by 10x Genomics. Please send me an email request if you want to get the files.
Also we are collecting expression of interest to obtain this (or similar technology). Those who have already informed me about their interest do not need to do it again unless you specifically want to remind me 🙂
The price range of the system is ~75k€ and its use would be best organized as a centralized service/facility.
One chip (containing reagents) will cost roughly 1500€ (+ sequencing costs on top).
Initial enquiry sounded like there was considerable interest for the technology.
Best regards,
Aki

Nordic Trial Alliance Invites Proposals for Nordic COVID-19 Activities
The Nordic Trial Alliance is a NordForsk project that aims to facilitate clinical research cooperation in the Nordic region. The purpose of NTA is to make it easier to carry out clinical research in the Nordic countries with focus on cooperation on clinical multi-centre trials.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there is a huge need for new knowledge related to the SARS-CoV-2 virus infection in order to develop vaccines, treatments etc. Conducting trials or research cooperation at the Nordic level could be one way of generating such knowledge but also for Nordic patients to participate in trials. Joint Nordic activities will also promote knowledge transfer across the region as well as help establishing research infrastructures for future trials. Making use of the Nordic registers and health care data could support such research.
NTA hereby invites proposals for activities aiming to promote Nordic cooperation related to COVID-19 research.
A proposal could for example include (one or several) activities related to:
- knowledge transfer
- infrastructure establishment
- Nordic coordination of national initiatives incl. trials
- planning of joint Nordic initiatives
- data sharing and interoperability
- establishing networks
- monitoring
- preparedness for future pandemics
that will strengthen Nordic collaboration and knowledge transfer, with a concrete outcome that will enhance Nordic clinical research cooperation and contribute to the global knowledge related to COVID-19.
Representatives of Nordic research performing organisations, public sector, patient organisations or other relevant organisations are eligible to apply. Companies may not receive funding from NTA although they may take part in activities at their own costs. An activity should include participants from minimum three Nordic countries.
Proposals should be 2-3 A4 pages and include a description of the activity with focus on how it aims to promote COVID-19 research in the Nordic countries. In addition, a CV for the main applicant is allowed, maximum 1 A4 page. The activity should preferably be initiated in 2020. Each activity may apply for maximum 500 000 NOK. The total available funding for the call is 2 000 000 NOK. A tentative budget should be included according the template.<https://nta.nordforsk.org/files/BudgettemplateNTACovid19.xlsx> The budget should display Nordic cooperation.
The proposal should describe how participants from the Nordic countries will be involved and include a plan for how to disseminate its results. The Nordic added value of the results should be made clear. The proposal must describe how it will secure coordination with other ongoing activities at the international, Nordic or national level in order not to overlap or put extra pressure on an already stressed health care system.
The proposals should be submitted to the NTA project coordinator Maria Nilsson at maria.nilsson(a)nordforsk.org<mailto:maria.nilsson@nordforsk.org> by 15 April 2020. Decision of support will be taken by NTA in April 2020.
