Horizon Europe Health calls Info and Brokerage days

Dear researchers, to those of you who are interested in the Horizon Europe Health-cluster calls. In the beginning of July, the commission has an info day on the Health cluster and after that a brokerage (partnering) event for those looking for partners. Both events are online. The Health cluster info day on July 2nd is open to everyone and requires no registration: https://www.horizon-europe-infodays2021.eu/event/cluster-1-health The brokerage (partnering) event on July 5 requires registration: https://healthbe2021.b2match.io/ How the brokerage days work: - Register for the event and create a profile. The organizer needs to activate your profile, this will take some time. - If you are looking for partners, you can make a project description (highly recommended!) which can be on a general level. - In the agenda-section you can find the general sessions open to everyone - In the Marketplace-section, you can find everyone who are looking for partners and who are interested in discussing collaboration. If you find interesting profiles you can ask for a one-to-one online session and those will be timed for the afternoon on July 5. Tavoitteena on selvittää, minkälainen rahoitusmuoto tai -malli palvelisi parhaiten nuoren tutkijasukupolven tutkimustyötä ja uraa. Hankkeen aikana arvioidaan myös, miten rahoitusmuotouudistuksella voitaisiin sujuvoittaa rahoituksen hakemista ja käyttöä sekä keventää tutkimusorganisaatioiden hallinnollista työtä. Suomen Akatemialla on nykyisin nuorelle tutkijasukupolvelle haettavissa tutkijatohtorin ja akatemiatutkijan rahoitusmuodot sekä osana akatemiahanke-rahoitusmuotoa nuorten akatemiahanke. Rahoitusmuodot on otettu käyttöön eri aikakausina ja niitä on kehitetty eri vaiheissa rahoitusmuotolähtöisesti. Samaan aikaan tutkimustyön käytännöt ja tutkimusorganisaatioiden urajärjestelmät ovat vuosien varrella muuttuneet, ja esimerkiksi tutkimusyhteistyö on saanut uusia muotoja. Myös eri tutkimusalojen tarpeet tutkijanuran tukemisessa vaihtelevat. Hakijoilta saadun palautteen perusteella rahoituksen hakemista ja sen käyttöä on tarpeen yksinkertaistaa ja tähänkin kysymykseen Akatemia haluaa nyt tarttua selvityshankkeen avulla. Toimintaympäristössä tapahtuneiden muutosten takia Suomen Akatemia näkee, että rahoitusmuotojen toimivuutta on tarkasteltava uusista näkökulmista. Näin ollen selvitämme, palveleeko nykyinen kolmen rahoitusmuodon kokonaisuus parhaalla mahdollisella tavalla nuoren tutkijasukupolven tutkimustyötä. Selvityshanke on käynnistetty syyskuussa. Suomen Akatemia kerää syksyn 2021 kyselyjen ja sidosryhmäkeskustelujen avulla näkemyksiä, huomioita ja toiveita tutkijoilta ja tutkimusorganisaatioilta kehittämisen tueksi. Suomen Akatemia pitää nuoren tutkijasukupolven tutkijanurien edistämistä yhtenä keskeisenä tiedepoliittisena tavoitteena ja sen saavuttamisessa nuoren tutkijasukupolven rahoitusmuotojen kehittäminen on yksi toimintatapa. The aim is to identify what kind of funding scheme would best serve the research and careers of early-career researchers. Another aim is to assess how this type of reform could streamline the application process and the use of funding and also ease the administrative work of research organisations. The Academy of Finland currently has three funding opportunities for early-career researchers: funding for research posts as Postdoctoral Researcher, funding for research posts as Academy Research Fellow and Academy Project funding targeted at early-career researchers. The funding opportunities have been introduced at different times and have been developed in a scheme-centric manner. At the same time, research practices and career systems have changed over the years, and research cooperation, for example, has taken new forms. The needs of different research fields as regards supporting research careers also vary. Based on feedback the Academy of Finland has received, there is a need to simplify the application process and the use of funding, and the Academy now wants to address this issue. Because of changes that have taken place in the operating environment, the Academy believes that the function of these funding schemes must be examined from new perspectives. The aim is therefore to examine whether the current three schemes serve the research work of early-career researchers in the best possible way. The project to investigate a possible reform was launched in September. In autumn 2021, the Academy will open surveys and organise stakeholder discussions to collect views, observations and wishes from researchers and research organisations. The Academy of Finland regards the promotion of the research careers of early-career researchers as a key science policy objective. Revamping the funding opportunities is one way of achieving this objective. Providing funding to early-career researchers is also important to ensure the renewal of science and the quality of research.
