Rahoitushakuja avoinna Suomi-USA-tutkimusyhteistyöhön: hakuinfotilaisuus aiheesta pidetään 7.12.2021

Suomen Akatemia on avannut uudet yhteishaut Yhdysvaltojen National Science Foundationin (NSF) ja National Institutes of Healthin (NIH) kanssa. Hauissa tuetaan suomalaisten ja yhdysvaltalaisten tutkimusryhmien yhteisiä tutkimushankkeita lippulaivojen aihealueilla. Tutkimusyhteistyötä tuetaan Akatemian lippulaivaohjelman ja ICT2023 tutkimus-, kehitys- ja innovaatio-ohjelman kautta.
Akatemia on varannut tutkimusyhteistyön suomalaisten osapuolten tukemiseen vuodelle 2022 yhteensä enintään viisi miljoonaa euroa. Yhteistyöhakujen toteutus tehdään aiemmin pilotoidulla mallilla, jossa varsinainen yhteistyöhakemus jätetään yhdysvaltalaisrahoittajan hakuun. Hakujen toteutusta on kuitenkin kehitetty aiemmista hauista saadun hakijapalautteen pohjalta.
Hauista kiinnostuneille järjestetään hakuinfo 7.12.2021 klo 14–15. Tallenne tilaisuudesta on katsottavissa Akatemian verkkosivuilta kahden viikon ajan. Lue lisää tilaisuudesta ja ilmoittaudu<https://www.aka.fi/suomen-akatemian-toiminta/ajankohtaista/tapahtumat/hakui…>.

Calls open for research cooperation between Finland and USA: call info on 7 December 2021

The Academy of Finland has opened two new joint calls with its funding partners in the US, the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The calls are aimed at supporting joint research projects between Finnish and American researchers in fields represented by the Finnish Flagships. The support for the research collaboration will be implemented under the Academy’s Finnish Flagship Programme and the research, development and innovation programme ICT 2023.
The Academy has reserved a total of up to 5 million euros for supporting Finnish collaboration partners in 2022.
The joint calls will be carried out using a previously tested model under which the actual application is submitted to the US funder. However, the call process has been improved based on feedback received from the previous calls.
An information session about the calls will be organised on 7 December 2021 at 14.00–15.00. The replays will be available on the Academy’s website for two weeks. Read more and sign up<https://www.aka.fi/en/about-us/whats-new/events/info-webinar-for-nih-and-ns…>.

Dear all,
We warmly welcome you to join the International Workshop on Wellbeing-aware Digital Design on December 2, 2021, at 13:00-15:00 Finnish time (EST). The workshop will be organized virtually in Zoom. The workshop is initiating collaborative research partnership with a peer (or peers) in Africa, Asia, or the LAC regions It will focus on how development of technology should be considered in research and education according to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Keynote speaker and the trainer will be Prof. Raian Ali, Professor in Information and Computing Technology, College of Science and Engineering, Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), Qatar
Digital media are equipped with powerful influence and persuasion techniques, which can increase users’ engagement and retention, but at the same time, can be questioned for hurting users’ wellness. Interestingly, technology offers an unprecedented opportunity for tools around assisting behavioural change and promoting a more regulated usage style. It can be designed to capture data around the (digital) behaviour and use them to derive interactive intervention techniques and issue them intelligently. This keynote will summarise the research around the topic and argue the case for the Responsibility by Design concept in which tech companies are asked to empower users and their surrogate parties (social or technical) with data and tools to regulate their digital usage and be meaningfully informed about it and meet the emerging requirement of Digital Wellbeing. The speaker will present recent projects conducted closely with charities, policymakers and the tech industry in the UK, Europe and Qatar, and the policy change achieved through them.
