The next application round for Academy Project Funding, Academy Research Fellowships and Clinical Researcher Funding will open in November 2023, not in September. The call will be branded as the winter 2024 call. Starting with the winter call, the review of applications will be based on a procedure in which the applicant chooses the most relevant panel for their application. The selection is made among the panels announced in advance by the Academy. Applications for other Academy funding, such as those for funding from the new Academy Programme for sport science, may also be processed in the panels where appropriate. The possibility to choose the panel means that applicants have more influence on the review process, and it also increases the transparency of the review. The feedback collected through the survey will be used to finalise the panel structure and descriptions. The Academy aims to publish the final list of panels and the panel descriptions for the winter 2024 call by September 2023. Take the survey by 23 May 2023 In planning the panel structure, the Academy has made extensive use of background information from previous years on the distribution of applications by discipline and theme. In addition, the Academy has carried out an international comparison of panel structures and panel descriptions established by a number of international research funders. The draft panel structure that has now been opened for comments consists of 41 panels, listed in alphabetical order. The panels have not been categorised by research council; any panel can assess applications to be decided by any of the Academy’s research councils. In other words, the applicant will independently choose * the research council to which they want to submit the application for decision * the panel to which they want to submit the application for review. As a rule, the panel descriptions include a description of the general subject area and a list of the scientific disciplines, keywords and methods that the panel will cover. The panels are often multidisciplinary. Horizon Europe proposal writing and coordination training in June 2023

Dear Researchers, Research and Project Services is organizing a training on proposal writing and coordination to support researchers (UOULU & UOAS) who are interested in Horizon Europe (HE) consortium projects. The training is divided in two parts: 1. How to write an excellent HE proposal Tuesday, 6.6.2023 at 9.00 – 12.00 in Timjami (Foodoo Garden) 1. How to coordinate a HE proposal, Thursday 8.6.2023 at 9.30 – 11.00 in Timjami (Foodoo Garden) The training will be given by research support specialists from UOulu. Research and project services have been supporting researchers in writing various funding applications for European funding calls since the early days of the framework programmes. The current coordination support process for Horizon Europe consortium project preparation has been highly successful. So far UOulu has been awarded 7 coordinated Horizon Europe consortium projects, out of which 4 took part in the support process organized by the research and project services. This training is open for all researchers, whether you are just learning about EU projects or already participated in them. You can participate in both parts of the training, or just one. It starts with finding a suitable call and understanding the call text. Setting up the objectives and writing the proposal is a time-consuming exercise. In this training, we will guide you on how to avoid the common pitfalls and write the different sections of the proposal (Excellence, Impact and Implementation). We will discuss SMART objectives, key performance indicators, key impact pathways, deliverables, milestones, risks, barriers and obstacles. We will guide you through cross-cutting issues such as gender, open science, data management, and the budget. We will also give you practical tools for proposal writing and discuss the support available at UOulu. 1. How to coordinate a HE proposal, Thursday 8.6.2023 at 9.30 – 11.00 in Timjami (Foodoo Garden) This training is aimed at researchers planning to coordinate a HE proposal in the near future. Not only do you need an excellent application (see training 1 on how to write an excellent HE proposal), but you also need to find the right partners and make sure they work together despite their different backgrounds and motivation. We will discuss the tasks of a coordinator, the most important tools, how to keep the schedule and how to divide the work in order not to become overwhelmed by the preparation. In clinical research, systematic review is already common practice. In the case of animal experimentation, however, systematic reviews are still rather uncommon, even they have several important advantages: systematic reviews may improve the translation of animal data to the clinic, contribute to patient safety, improve the scientific quality of animal experiments, and prevent unnecessary (duplication of) animal experiments. In addition, meta-analyses provide quantitative summaries of the results of animal studies on a certain topic and often provide new insights without having to use new animals. Both the advantages and the limitations of systematic reviews will be discussed. You will have the opportunity to practice various steps of the systematic review process, such as comprehensive searching, data extraction and analysis. You will experience the added value of systematic reviews and have the opportunity to explore the possibilities and efforts needed for conducting a review in your own field of research. Target audience The workshop is targeted at junior biomedical researchers considering to conduct their own systematic review of animal studies in the near future. The workshop is also suitable for junior and senior researchers or other staff (e.g. animal welfare officers) directly or indirectly involved in animal experiments, wishing to familiarize themselves with systematic review methodology Tutors: Dr. Kimberley (Kim) Wever and Dr. Carlijn Hooijmans are early-career meta-research experts dedicated to maximizing the value of animal studies for human health and work at the Meta-Research team - Radboudumc (https://www.radboudumc.nl/en/research/departments/anesthesiology/meta-resea…) . Histopaque 1100?

Hi, I'm asking if anyone has Histopaque solution? I need the solution in density 1.1 g/ml, which can be made by mixing Histopaque 1077 and 1119. We can try Ficoll (1.077 g/ml) which we have, but Histopaque would be a better option. Apurahahaku käynnistyi – jaossa yli kaksi miljoonaa euroa lääketieteen tutkimukseen Suomen Lääketieteen Säätiön vuosittainen apurahahaku on käynnissä 1.5.–31.5.2023. Apurahoja tieteellisen tutkimuksen edistämiseksi jaetaan tänäkin vuonna yli kahden miljoonan euron edestä. Tuen kohteena ovat erityisesti nuoret tutkijat. Säätiö jakaa vuonna 2023 seuraavat apurahat: Eka-apuraha Eka-apurahat on tarkoitettu tutkimustyötään aloittaville lääketieteen opiskelijoille ja lisensiaateille. Arviointi painottuu tutkimussuunnitelmaan ja tutkimusympäristöön, ei hakijan aiempiin ansioihin. Hakijalla ei tarvitse olla julkaisuja. Apurahan suuruus on 2 500 €/hakija. Kannustusapuraha Kannustusapuraha on tarkoitettu nuorille väitöskirjan tekijöille. Hakemus arvioidaan tutkimussuunnitelman ja aiempien ansioiden perusteella. Kannustusapurahoja myöntävät Suomen Lääketieteen Säätiö ja Duodecim. Apurahan suuruus on 5 000 €/hakija. Tutkimusapuraha 6, 12 tai 24 kk Tutkimusapurahoja myönnetään työskentelyapurahaksi lääketieteen opiskelijoille, lisensiaateille ja tohtoreille 6, 12 tai 24 kuukauden ajaksi päätoimisen tutkimustyön rahoitukseen. Haettavat tutkimusapurahat väitöskirjan tekijöilleovat 13 500 € (6 kuukauden apuraha), 27 000 € (12 kuukauden apuraha) tai 54 000 € (24 kuukauden apuraha) ja tutkijatohtoreille 15 000 € (6 kuukauden apuraha), 30 000 € (12 kuukauden apuraha) tai 60 000 € (24 kuukauden apuraha). Palaavan tutkijan apuraha Palaavan tutkijan apuraha on tarkoitettu ulkomailta Suomeen palaavalle tutkijalle. Apurahan edellytys on lääketieteen tohtorin tutkinto (LT/LKT) ja menestyksekäs ulkomailla vietetty niin sanottu post doc -kausi. Apuraha on enintään 50 000 €, josta yleiskustannusosuus on enintään 5000 €. Tutkimusryhmän perustajan apuraha Tutkimusryhmän perustajan apuraha on tarkoitettu itsenäisen tutkijanuransa alkuvaiheessa oleville väitelleille lääkäritutkijoille lääketieteellisesti merkittävään tutkimushankkeeseen. Apurahat ovat suuruudeltaan 150 000 – 200 000 €. Apurahat uusiin tutkimusavauksiin Suomen Lääketieteen Säätiö on varannut 300 000 euroa jaettaviksi uusiin tutkimusavauksiin korkean riskin tutkimushankkeissa. Säätiö haluaa näin luoda valmiuksia valmistautua tulevaan. Uskomme, että erityisesti nuorten lääkäreiden ja uusien tutkijasukupolvien tukeminen on tulevaisuuteen varautumista mitä suurimmassa määrin. Jaettavien apurahojen suuruudet ovat 50 000 tai 100 000 euroa.
