Dear Principal Investigators,
Is your health-related research area missing from EU funding calls and work programmes? Now is the time to speak up and let us know. We are collecting nationally important health research themes that should be included in future EU work programmes.
This is a joint effort with Finnish Universities and research organizations who operate in health research. The questionnaire can be freely shared in order to reach Finnish researchers as widely as possible to collect input for the important missing themes.
The renewal of research themes in Cluster 1 Health work programmes has not progressed since the start of Horizon Europe in 2021. There is a need to start advancing and advocating for relevant topics to future work programmes and creating a joint vision for FP10.
For example, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) were absent from EU funding calls for many years, despite being a leading cause of death in Europe. This gap has recently been addressed with the publication of the EU CVD plan. However, there are likely other major health topics that remain overlooked.
Please take a few minutes to complete the Webropol questionnaire below-it will require no more than 5 minutes of your time. Please submit your proposal by January 31st 2026.

We apologize if you receive this request from multiple sources; we are working to spread this effort as widely as possible across Finland through various channels. This call is intended for principal investigators who lead their own research groups.
Please note that while we cannot guarantee your theme will be advanced, our goal is to identify a few large, missing areas that can be prioritized and pushed forward in EU work programmes.
The aim is to help shape EU work programmes so that they reflect Finland's health research needs and ultimately increasing the likelihood of future EU funding.
Thank you for your time and input!

Dear colleagues,
You are warmly invited to a FinnGen seminar at the University of Oulu on Thursday, 29 January 2026 at 10:00-11:45. The event brings together FinnGen leadership and local researchers to showcase how large-scale biobank data can advance disease genetics and clinical insight.
The keynote speakers of the seminar are Professors Mark Daly and Aarno Palotie, founders of the FinnGen project. Professor Daly is a pioneer in human genetics and founding Chief of the Analytic and Translational Genetics Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. Professor Palotie is the Scientific Director of FinnGen and has played a key role in the success of research in human genetics in the Nordic countries promoting genome studies that utilise the unique Nordic health registers.
FinnGen is the largest biomedical research project in Finland, combining genome data from over 500 000 participants with nationwide health registry data. The project enables research across a wide range of diseases and supports close collaboration between clinicians, researchers, and data scientists.
We warmly welcome researchers from clinical medicine, biosciences, genetics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, and related fields who are interested in using registry-linked genomic data in their research.
Program
9:45-10:00 Coffee and baked goods at Aapistie 7A, main lobby
(Please note: after the coffee break, we will move together to the auditorium A101)

Do you work with low abundant DNA and/or RNA targets? Are your samples rich with inhibitors?
Digital PCR (dPCR) provides significant advantages for these applications - come and join QIAGEN’s dPCR webinar to find out how!
QIAGEN Webinar - Digital PCR vs qPCR: Precision Redefined
You are welcomed to join QIAGEN webinar where our Application Specialist Marja-Leena Hellman will explore how digital PCR (dPCR) enables precise, absolute quantification of DNA and RNA—while supporting the same applications traditionally performed using qPCR.
The presentation will further compare dPCR and qPCR in more depth, highlighting how increased precision, reduced variability, and direct absolute copy number measurements can provide deeper insight and greater confidence than relative quantification approaches.
The session will conclude with an interactive Q&A, offering the opportunity to ask questions and discuss your specific applications.
