Hyvät Tutkijat / Dear Researchers, Sähköpostin liitteenä löydätte Orionin Tutkimussäätiön tiedotteen vuodelle 2026 tarkoitettujen apurahojen hausta. Hakuaika on 1.8. - 10.9.2025. Säätiö myöntää apurahoja lääketieteen ja sen läheisten alojen väitöskirjatutkijoille (6000 €), sekä viiden vuoden sisään* valmistuneille tohtoreille (max. 50 000 €). *Erikoislääkärin, erikoishammaslääkärin tai erikoiseläinlääkärin tutkinnon suorittamisesta tai muista erityisistä syistä otetaan huomioon myös hakija, jonka väitöspäivämäärä on ollut 10.9.2018 jälkeen. Please find attached the press release by Orion Research Foundation related to their call of grants. The application period is from August 1 to September 10, 2025. The foundation grants doctoral researchers in medicine and related fields (6000 €), as well as to doctors who have graduated within the last five years* (up to 50,000 €). *Due to the completion of a specialist degree in medicine, dentistry, or veterinary medicine, or for other special reasons, applicants whose dissertation date is after September 10, 2018, will also be considered. Tämä keventää yliopistojen palkkausjärjestelmän mukaista arviointiprosessia. Päätös, jossa kuvataan, miten tyyppitehtäväkuvia käytetään, ja mitä vaikutuksia niiden käytöllä on, löytyy palkkausjärjestelmä<https://patio.oulu.fi/fi/palvelut-ja-ohjeet/henkilosto/palkat-ja-palkkiot/p…>-sivulta. Sieltä löytyvät myös itse tutkimuspainotteisten tehtävien tyyppitehtäväkuvat, joista on poistettu vaativuustasotieto. Muutos yksinkertaistaa palkkausjärjestelmän mukaista vaativuuden ja suoriutumisen arviointia ja keventää esihenkilötyötä. Esihenkilöiden hallinnollien työ vähenee, kun vaativuuden ja suoriutumisen arviointia kuuden kuukauden kuluessa työsuhteen alkamisesta ei pääsääntöisesti tarvitse enää tehdä. Tyyppitehtäväkuvat on rakennettu palkkausjärjestelmän kriteerien pohjalta, ja arviointiryhmä on ollut niistä yksimielinen. Tyyppitehtäväkuvaukset tukevat henkilöstön tasapuolista kohtelua. Tyyppitehtäväkuvien käyttöä pyritään laajentamaan jatkossa myös muihin kuin tutkimuspainotteisiin tehtäviin. Muun asiantuntija- ja tukihenkilöstön osalta niiden käyttö on palveluyksiköissä mahdollistettu jo vuoden 2025 alusta lukien. *** Standard job descriptions for research positions The University of Oulu has decided to introduce standard job descriptions 1 for the positions weighted towards research in the teaching and research staff salary system. This eases evaluation process of the salary system for universities. The decision describing how standard job descriptions are used and what effects their use has, can be found from salary system<https://patio.oulu.fi/en/services-and-instructions/personnel/salaries-and-f…> Patio page. On the page one can also find the actual standard job descriptions, with requirement level information removed. The change simplifies the process of the evaluation of the requirement and performance in accordance with the salary system and eases the workload for line managers. The administrative tasks of line managers will decrease as the evaluation of requirement and performance with six months of the start of the employment mainly no longer need to be done. The standard job descriptions have been built based on the criteria of the salary system, and the evaluation group has been unanimous on them. The standard job descriptions support the equal treatment of employees. The aim is in the future to expand the use of standard job descriptions also for other positions than those weighted towards research. Symposium 9.4.2025 : Culture of care in laboratory animal work - High standards, Humane Science

Dear Recipient, We warmly welcome everyone whose work is related to experimental animals to participate in the first Finnish culture of care Symposium "High standards, Humane Science", organized by TOKES and Fin3R (programme attached). The symposium will be held at the Meilahti campus of the University of Helsinki, Biomedicum lecture hall 2, on 09 April from 10 AM to 3 PM. The culture of care in laboratory animal work means a strong commitment to improving animal welfare and experimental quality by promoting communication between stakeholders. Culture of care challenges and improves existing practices to promote animal welfare and scientific standards. The symposium offers international examples of culture of care activities and examines the current situation in Finland with the aim of promoting national activities and drawing up a road map for the future. The symposium will be complemented by a separate interactive "Care-full stories" workshop on Thursday 10 April, which is a follow-up to Jordi Tremoleda's presentation. The workshop provides an opportunity to experience how the Care-full stories<https://www.geog.ox.ac.uk/research/technological-life/projects/care-full-st…> approach works when training stakeholders of experimental animal work in the culture of care, and to exchange ideas and experiences. The workshop welcomes all colleagues working in the experimental animal community, including researchers at all levels of expertise, veterinarians, animal caretakers and technicians, policymakers and welfare professionals. The number of participants in the workshop is limited to 30. The symposium and workshop will be held in English.
