Applications invited for Blood Service research grants Researchers are now invited to apply for grants from the Blood Service research fund for 2022. The purpose of these grants is to support research related to the Blood Service’s current and future products and services. The application period is from 15 February to 31 March 2022. The grants are primarily intended for scientific projects conducted outside the Blood Service. These might deal with topics such as blood or cell donations, blood products, cell therapies, or transplantations and tissue compatibility. Suitable scientific fields include life sciences, clinical and biomedicine, technology, nursing sciences, social sciences and health economics. Total funding of €500,000 is available for 2022. Funding can be applied for to cover research costs, salaries, personal grants or research visits. Each grant may be awarded for 1 to 3 years at a time. Grants covering more than one year will be awarded as a single sum on the first application, but recipients must be able to demonstrate sufficient progress in their annual reports. Applications will be processed by the Review Committee. The Board of the Blood Service will announce its decisions to the researchers in charge named in the applications in autumn 2022. In 2021, grants totalling €495,000 were awarded from the research fund for research on cell therapies, blood cells and organ transplantations.
