Hi everyone,
Welcome to the Health and Biosciences Guest Seminar
Time: Nov 2, 12:00 – 13:00
Coffee is served before the seminar from 12:00/12:15.
Place: Leena Palotie Auditorium, Kontinkangas campus
Speaker: Dr.
Sakari Vanharanta, University of Cambridge, UK
Title of the talk:
“Transcriptional control of cancer progression”
About the speaker:
Dr. Sakari Vanharanta studied medicine at the University of Helsinki and completed his PhD work on human tumour genetics. He has worked on the molecular mechanisms of metastatic cancer progression at the laboratory
of Joan Massagué at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York. In 2014 Vanharanta joined the MRC Cancer Unit, UK (UK Medical Research Council, School of Clinical Medicine of the University of Cambridge).
Vanharanta’s research focuses on transcriptional determinants of cancer progression: exploring the molecular mechanisms that modulate the phenotypic output of tumour-initiating transcriptional pathways in support of cancer
progression and metastasis. Understanding the origins and nature of metastatic cancer will provide insights into the fundamental requirements of cancer cell states and help identify functionally relevant biomarkers as well as therapeutic targets.
