Ötököitä, robotteja, unelmien Oulu ja paljon muuta Oulun yliopiston Tutkijoiden yössä

Tutkijoiden yötä vietetään Linnanmaan kampuksella tänäkin syksynä. Perjantaina 29. syyskuuta tutkijamme tarjoavat runsaan kattauksen monipuolista nähtävää, koettavaa ja tekemistä kaikenikäisille.

Tutkijoiden yö on koko perheen monitieteinen tapahtuma, jossa tuodaan esille tutkijoita ja heidän työtään sekä tieteen merkitystä arjessamme. Tapahtumassa tiede esittäytyy kymmenissä työpajoissa, näyttelyissä ja yleistajuisissa esityksissä. Mukana ovat muun muassa robotiikkaan, luututkimukseen, tekoälyyn, biojätteen hyödyntämiseen, kekriperinteeseen ja unelmien Ouluun liittyvät työpajat.

Yleistajuisissa tiedeluennoissa esitellään visioita kiertotaloudesta, valaistaan Hartaanselän asuntomessualueen historiaa, perehdytään ironiaan ja tutustutaan uusimpiin havaintoihin jään sulamisesta Grönlannissa. Yliopiston kasvitieteellisessä puutarhassa on esillä monenmoisia ötököitä, kokoelmakasvihuoneet Romeo ja Julia ovat avoinna ja puutarhan asiantuntijat ovat paikalla vastaamassa kysymyksiin. Potnapekka kuljettaa yleisöä maksutta kampuksen ja puutarhan välillä non-stop klo 17–21.

Tutkijoiden yössä vietetään myös uuden bokashi-kompostointimenetelmästä kertovan tietokirjan julkistustilaisuutta ja jaetaan käytännön tietoa bokashista.

Vielä kerran: Ortotopologian lopulliset alkeet

Tutkijoiden yössä on mahdollista nähdä vielä kerran suosittu Ortotopologian lopulliset alkeet -näytelmä, joka kertoo edesmenneestä pseudotieteilijästä ja ortotopologian dosentista Aapo Heikkilästä. Näytös on maksuton, lippuja esitykseen on rajattu määrä ja niitä jaetaan klo 17 alkaen Tutkijoiden yön infopisteessä.

Illan päätteeksi esiintyy Talent Suomi -ohjelmasta (2021) tuttu multi-instrumentalisti Julius Rantala Agorassa klo 20.

Tutkijoiden yö tarjoaa ohjelmaa myös Sodankylän Geofysiikan Observatoriossa. Yleisöluennoilla kerrotaan revontulista, katsellaan upeita kuvia ja videoita ja tutkijat vastaavat yleisön kysymyksiin. Tapahtumassa esitellään myös uuden EISCAT_3D-sirontatutkan toimintaa. Sään salliessa yleisö voi kokeilla yötaivaan kuvausta kameralla.

Tutkijoiden yö on koko Euroopan laajuinen ja Suomen suurin tiedetapahtuma, jota vietetään perinteisesti syyskuun viimeisenä perjantaina. Oulun yliopistossa Tutkijoiden yö järjestetään nyt kuudetta kertaa.

Insects, Robots, Dreams of Oulu, and Much More at the Researchers' Night of the University of Oulu

The Researchers' Night is celebrated once again this autumn at Linnanmaa campus. On Friday, September 29th, our researchers offer a rich array of diverse sights, experiences, and activities for all ages.

The Researchers' Night is a multidisciplinary event for the whole family, showcasing researchers and their work, as well as the significance of science in our everyday lives. The event features science in dozens of workshops, exhibitions, and presentations accessible to the general public. Workshops include topics such as robotics, bone research, artificial intelligence, the utilization of organic waste, traditional Finnish Kekri traditions, and workshop related to the dreams of Oulu.

In short science lectures, visions of the circular economy will be presented, the history of the Hartaanselkä housing fair area will be illuminated, irony will be explored, and the latest findings on Greenland's ice melting will be discussed. The Botanical garden of the University of Oulu will showcase various insects, and the Romeo and Juliet collection greenhouses will be open, with experts available to answer questions. City train Potnapekka will provide free transportation for the audience between the campus and the garden non-stop from 5 to 9 pm.

During the Researchers' Night, there will also be a book launch event for a new book on the bokashi composting method, providing practical information on bokashi.

Once Again: The Final Basics of Orthotopology

At the Researchers' Night, you have the opportunity to see the popular play "Ortotopologian lopulliset alkeet (The Final Basics of Orthotopology)" once again, which tells the story of the late pseudoscientist and orthotopology lecturer Aapo Heikkilä. The show is free, and a limited number of tickets will be distributed starting at 5 pm at the Researchers' Night info point. Note that the play will be entirely in Finnish.

To conclude the evening, multi-instrumentalist Julius Rantala, known from the Talent Finland program (2021), will perform in Agora at 8 pm.

The Researchers' Night also offers programs at the Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory. Public lectures will cover the Northern Lights, showcase stunning images and videos, and researchers will answer the audience's questions. The event will also introduce the operation of the new EISCAT_3D scatter radar. Weather permitting, the audience can try night sky photography with a camera.

The Researchers' Night is a Europe-wide event and Finland's largest science festival, traditionally celebrated on the last Friday of September. At the University of Oulu, the Researchers' Night is now held for the sixth time.
