Decoding biological aging through genomic methods and AI

PhD, Docent, Senior Research Fellow Juulia Jylhävä

Tampere University

Juulia Jylhävä is a Senior Research Fellow at Tampere University, Finland, and Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, where she leads the Systems Biology of Aging research group. Her work centers on measuring biological aging, identifying its drivers, and understanding its links to adverse outcomes such as age-related diseases, frailty, and mortality. Using genetic, multi-omics, AI, and causal inference approaches, her group investigates why some individuals maintain good health into old age while others experience early decline. An additional focus is the development of an electronic frailty index for healthcare, designed to measure biological aging at the whole-organism level and enable the early identification of vulnerable individuals.
