Dear all,
On Thursday December 12 there will be two consecutive seminars at 14.15-16 in 101A Leena Palotie Hall.
The first by Valeria Orlova, Department of Anatomy and Embryology, Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands.
The presentation title: “Next-Generation Vascular Disease Models Using Patient-Derived Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (hiPSCs)”.
The second presentation by Sami Franssila, Dept. of Chemistry and Materials Science and Micronova Nanofabrication Center, Aalto University, Helsinki. The presentation title: “Cells on surfaces: surface topography
and surface chemistry for tailoring cell behaviour on surfaces”.
Welcome everybody! No registration required.
Coffee is served during networking session 20 min before the presentation time.
Field specific credits can be earned according to
UniOGS
recommendations (attendance at scientific seminars for 10 hours: 0,5ECTS)

Blood vessels are essential for proper functioning of tissues and organs in our body, and vascular dysfunction is associated with many cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. Insight into the interactions between
vascular cells and the local microenvironment are therefore key to understanding many different diseases. We utilize hiPSCs derived from healthy donors and patients with genetic vascular disorders. Over recent years, we have developed efficient protocols to
differentiate different endothelial cell (EC) subtypes, pericytes, vascular smooth muscle cells, as well as myeloid cells, such as monocytes and macrophages. Specifically, we investigate the generation of tissue-specific vascular cells with focus on the heart
and brain vasculature.
