Dear BCO Olympus FluoView 1000 confocal users,
The broken argon-ion laser has been finally replaced with a new type long-living diode laser. The confocal system is working fully again and blue, green and red channels are all available. Please note that the brightness of the new 488 nm laser (for green dyes) is bit higher than it was in the old laser.
The system is even easier to use than before. You don’t have to touch the laser power switch and key anymore, just turn on the main switches + the computer and the microscope is ready to use. Turning off happens the same way: turning off the main switches will shut down the whole system without a need to shut down the lasers separately. There will be also printed instructions close by, but please ask the personnel if you are uncertain how to act.

Dear BCO Olympus FluoView 1000 confocal users,
Microscope’s argon-ion laser is not working at the moment. That is the laser unit producing 458nm, 488nm and 514nm excitation wavelengths commonly used for cyan/green/yellow dyes (CFP,Alexa 488, GFP, YFP etc.). If those channels are needed, please use alternative microscopes (e.g. Zeiss confocals).
The laser will be repaired as soon as possible and I will send you a new email as soon as the problem is fixed.
Regards, Veli-Pekka Ronkainen BCO Light Microscopy Core Facility
