Subject: Open positions for one Doctoral Researcher and one Postdoctoral Researcher for Safe Biomonitoring by Bioict Integrated Wearables at University of Oulu
Importance: High
|
We at the University of Oulu work as part of the international science community to produce new scientific information
and science-based solutions. We are committed to educating future pioneers to build a more sustainable, intelligent, and humane world. Creating new, taking responsibility, and succeeding together are values that build a solid foundation for all our actions. We
offer a working environment where individuals can cultivate their skills, do meaningful work, and develop professionally. Our university's several specialized research and service units enable extensive and diverse development and career opportunities for
experts in various fields. Oulu provides endless opportunities for modern BIO and ICT research
(https://youtu.be/WStoojF1VHA). We are now seeking for One Doctoral Researcher and one Postdoctoral
Researcher to join our multidisciplinary research team to work for a new Infotech Oulu project
“SAFE BIOMONITORING BY BIOICT INTEGRATED WEARABLES” The successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary research group led by Prof. Juha Röning from the Faculty of Information
Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Oulu and the Biomimetics and Intelligent Systems Group (BISG,
https://www.oulu.fi/en/biomimetics-and-intelligent-systems-group). The
Co-PIs in this Infotech research project are Professors Seppo Vainio, Valerio Izzi, Sylvain Sebert, and Ville Pimenoff, who represent of the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine and Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oulu, Finland. The researchers
chosen through this recruitment process will work as a team with guidance from the abovementioned research leaders. The work will be data driven, in the biomedical field (Doctoral researcher) and biocomputing (Postdoctoral researcher) based on large source
of biomolecular data (e.g. GTEX), genomics (FINNGEN) and longitudinal cohorts (LongITools.org). Doctoral researcher and postdoctoral researcher will also have some teaching opportunities. The team is part of the two flagships (https://www.genecellnano.fi/ and https://www.oulu.fi/6gflagship/). Open position for a doctoral researcher Molecular machinery of extracellular vesicle secretion. Contact, Associate professor Valerio Izzi (Valerio.izzi@oulu.fi)
and Dr. Ville Pimenoff (ville.pimenoff@ki.se).
The production and release of extracellular vesicles (EVs) by multiple cell types is an established concept in health and disease. However, a systematic catalog of different EVs markers and cargos, as well as the molecular drivers of their production and release
as well as the machinery required to produce them is missing. To explore this EVs atlas for disease associations, the successful candidate will make use of large multi-omics cohorts and integrative bioinformatics and data analysis approaches to identify EVs
signatures across healthy and pathological (e.g., cancer) samples and to impute both the molecular signals governing them and the most likely targets and effects dependent on them. Job requirements: We are welcoming a candidate with a strong background in genetic epidemiology, biostatistics, and bioinformatics.
We seek candidates with scientific curiosity and skills in research using large data, longitudinal studies and causal approaches in epidemiology and machine learning. The successful candidate will join a pluri-disciplinary team and is therefore requested excellent
communication skills in English (oral and written). Qualification requirements for doctoral researcher
See also the education requirements for Doctoral degree studies given by the University of Oulu graduate school, UniOGS.
Data integration and biosensing. Contact,
Professor Juha Röning (juha.roning@oulu.fi)
and Professor Seppo Vainio (seppo.vainio@oulu.fi).
New wearable and sensing based technologies now co-exist to objectively inform on individual health. We are seeking for a talented researcher with good to excellent background in signal integration and artificial intelligence to continue developing our experimental
data and empirically based sensing method translating causal biological signal from the skin and its interplay with behavioral factors (physical activity, sleep, nutrition) into relevant health information and recommendation.
What we offer We offer you a place in an exceptionally talented research group, working to solve globally significant research
problems.
Salary The salary of selected doctoral researcher will be initially set on level 2, and later levels 2 – 4 of the national
salary scale for the teaching and research personnel of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 2200 – 2700
€ per month for an early-stage researcher, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and progress of the doctoral thesis. The salary of the selected postdoctoral researcher will be initially set on level 5 of the national salary scale for
the teaching and research personnel of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 3000 – 3700 € per month, depending
on the appointee’s qualifications. How to apply Applications, together with all relevant enclosures, should be submitted using the electronic application form by
