and for the students of the Health and Biosciences Doctoral Programme
Dear all,
The
Animal
Welfare Body of Laboratory Animal Centre, together with the Health and Biosciences Doctoral Programme, University of Oulu Graduate School, arranges a
3R-seminar on
study design.
(Programme attached)
The seminar takes place on

The seminar is directed primarily to researchers using laboratory animals in experiments, the scientific fields therefore including basic biomedical research and preclinical
medical research. However, part of the presentations are addressed to human health sciences researchers as well. Presentations that are more specific to animal studies will also include many aspects that are useful and important even for researchers of other
scientific disciplines.
Presentation topics and speakers:
- PREPARE before you ARRIVE: planning and reporting animal experiments. Adrian Smith, Norecopa, Norway
- Embracing variation to improve replicability of in-vivo research. Natasha Karp, AstraZeneca, UK
- Unstable p values are causing lack of repeatability in animal experiments. Lewis Halsey, University of Roehampton, UK
- Sleep and Circadian rhythms in research: Why should we care? Henna-Kaisa Wigren, University of Helsinki, Finland
- Unconscious bias in scientific research - Cautionary tales from psychology’s replication crisis. Stuart Ritchie, King’s College, UK
