The National Institute for Health and Welfare of Finland has an open post for an experienced senior researcher in the research project ” NORDCAP Nordic Research on Children and Adults born Preterm”.
Project description. NORDCAP is a multidisciplinary consortium project funded by the European Commission and Academy of Finland. The aim of NORDCAP is to promote the health and well-being of children and adults born preterm and to study underlying risk and protective factors. Together with our Nordic Partners, we harmonise data from Nordic social and healthcare registers and employ new methods for secure joint and remote use of large register datasets. NORDCAP is a part of EU-funded project RECAP Research on Children and Adults Born Preterm (www.recap-preterm.euhttp://www.recap-preterm.eu/). A main goal of RECAP is to harmonise and combine follow-up datasets (also other than register datasets) of children and adults born preterm from within and outside Europe.
Job description. The main tasks of the senior researcher is to author scientific manuscripts together with the research group and collaborators on jointly agreed important research questions in the fields of health, behavioural or social sciences. The tasks include data analysis together with a statistical expert and, as applicable, tasks related to data collection, harmonization and management. The senior researcher takes also part in preparation of new national and international collaborative projects, in applying for research funding, and in other research projects and expert assignments of the research group.
The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree or a Title of Docent / Associate Professor status and is able to demonstrate a track record of high quality international scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. We expect the candidate to master standard statistical methods in epidemiological research and be able and interested to learn new methods by working with a statistical expert. The applicable field of expertise may be a substance field such as health, behavioural or social sciences, or a method field such as statistics. There can be flexibility in the requirement of a doctoral degree in case of a candidate with a particularly strong publication track record.
The working language of NORDCAP is English.
We offer the possibility to be a part of a research group at the international top of the research area and to work with a multidisciplinary international consortium with the unique resource of Nordic national registers. The post will offer good possibilities to build up an own research career.
Place of employment: National Institute for Health and Welfare, Department of Public Health Solutions, Public Health Promotion Unit. The research group and the Unit have activities in Oulu and Helsinki, and the post can be located at either of these THL offices. The task will include periods spent at Nordic collaborating institutions (Karolinska Institute, Stockholm; Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim; and Capital Health Region, Copenhagen) and seminar and congress travel.
Duration of employment. Employment starts on 12 August 2019, or as agreed, and continues to end of the project on 30 June 2022, full time or nearly full time (80-100%). The employment period starts with a trial period. A standard security assessment will be required from the successful candidate.
Salary conforms to the payroll system of the National Institute for Health and Welfare.
