Strategisen tutkimuksen teema-aloitteessa keskitytään lapsiin ja nuoriin sekä turvallisuuteen ja luottamukseen

Suomen Akatemian yhteydessä toimiva strategisen tutkimuksen neuvosto (STN) ehdottaa valtioneuvostolle kahta teemaa vuonna 2022 käynnistettäville, monivuotisille strategisen tutkimuksen ohjelmille

Neuvoston ehdotukset uusiksi strategisen tutkimuksen teemoiksi ovat:

• Lapset ja nuoret – hyvinvoivat tulevaisuuden tekijät
• Turvallisuus ja luottamus algoritmien aikakaudella

Tutkimusteemoja läpileikkaavaksi painopisteeksi ehdotetaan yhdenvertaisuutta.

Lapset ja nuoret – hyvinvoivat tulevaisuuden tekijät teemasta löytyy mm terveyteen liittyvä osio:

”Väestöpoliittisesta ja kansanterveydellisestä näkökulmasta tarkasteltuna myös nykypäivän lasten ja nuorten terveys, mukaan lukien mielenterveys ja elintavat aina ruokailutottumuksista liikkumiseen, rakentavat perustaa väestön tulevaisuuden hyvinvoinnille sekä työ-ja toimintakyvylle. Sosiaali- ja terveyspalveluilla sekä etuusjärjestelmällä on osaltaan keskeinen merkitys yhdenvertaisten lähtökohtien ja hyvinvoinnin mahdollistajina.”

Valtioneuvosto käsittelee strategisen tutkimuksen neuvoston aloitteen ja päättää teemoista, minkä jälkeen STN vastaa teemoja käsittelevien tutkimusohjelmien käynnistämisestä ja rahoitushakujen avaamisesta. Ohjelmahaut avataan tyypillisesti loppusyksystä.

Proposal for strategic research themes focuses on children and young people, security and trust

The Strategic Research Council (SRC) established within the Academy of Finland proposes that the Finnish Government adopt two strategic research themes for programmes to be launched in 2022.

The two themes are:

• Children and young people – healthy, thriving and capable makers of the future
• Security and trust in the age of algorithms.

The proposed cross-cutting priority is equality.

In the Children and young people –theme there is the following health-related text:

“From the point of view of population policy and public health, the health of today’s children and young people, including their mental health and lifestyles, from eating habits to mobility, also build a foundation for the future wellbeing of the entire population as well as for the population’s work and functional capacity. Social and health services and the benefit system play a key role in facilitating welfare and ensuring an equal footing.”

Each strategic research programme focuses on a specific theme. In preparing the theme proposal to be submitted annually to the Finnish Government, the SRC identifies and anticipates societal challenges that are important for Finland's future and that require new research data produced across disciplinary boundaries.

The Government will discuss the SRC’s theme proposals and then decide the final themes, after which the SRC will be responsible for launching research programmes and opening funding calls based on the themes. The calls are typically opened in late autumn.
