Prof Casas will present interesting new results & ideas in the field of metabolic phenotyping, genetics & causality analyses via Mendelian Randomisation – a more detailed title will be announced later.
Professor Juan Pablo-Casas qualified in Medicine in 1999 and continued to train in cardiovascular science. In the UK, he worked initially as a Clinical Research Fellow in the Centre for Clinical Pharmacology at UCL and joined the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSTHM) in April 2005. Since April 2009 he split his time between the LSTHM and the University College London (UCL). At LSTHM, he works as co-director of the British Women's Heart & Health Study and Deputy Co-ordinator editor of the Cochrane Heart Group. At UCL, he works as a Reader in Genetic Epidemiology at the Institute of Cardiovascular Science.
His major interest is in disease aetiology in non-communicable disease with focus on cardiovascular disease and pre-eclampsia. Prof Casas is a key investigator in the UCLEB Consortium (http://computationalmedicine.fi/collaboration#UCLEB). Prof Casas has recently published papers, for example, in BMJ, Nat Commun, JAMA Psychiatry, Am J Hum Genet, Eur Heart J, Hum Mol Genet, Nat Genet, JACC, PLoS Med, Int J Epidemiol, Circ Cardiovasc Genet, Lancet & JAMA.
The last two seminars for this term will be
