Today! ------------ Dear all, Next Thursday, October 12, 15.15-16 in F202 we will have a Kontinkangas Research Seminar by Dr. Yoshitaka Fujihara from National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center (NCVC) Research Institute, Osaka, Japan. The title of his presentation is "Molecular mechanism of mammalian fertilization revealed by genome-edited mice".
More information about Dr. Fujihara and his research topics Dr. Yoshitaka Fujihara is an Assistant Director General of the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center (NCVC) Research Institute, a Director/Professor of the Department of Advanced Medical Technologies, and a Head of the Developmental Biotechnology Core at the NCVC situated in Osaka, Japan. Dr. Fujihara got his PhD in 2010 while studying with Prof. Masaru Okabe's lab at RIMD, Osaka University. He has created over 30 gene-knock-out animals in three years (2010-13) and identified many genes essential for fertility such as SPESP1, SPACA1, and TEX101 (JCS., 2010; Development, 2012: PNAS., 2013). After becoming an Assistant Professor in Prof. Masahito Ikawa's lab at Osaka University in 2013, he continued studying reproductive gene functions and focused on analyzing sperm membrane proteins that are conserved in mice and humans (BOR., 2014; Science, 2015; PNAS., 2016; IJMS., 2017; JCS., 2018;). In 2019, he moved to the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center as a PI (Laboratory Chief by Oct. 2022) and started to generate rat models of human diseases. Dr. Fujihara has more than 15 years of research experience analyzing gametogenesis, fertilization, and embryogenesis in mammalian reproduction, has published 62 papers, generated over 250 mouse models, and has been supported continuously by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) since 2007. Based on Google Scholar, his h-index is 33, and 23 papers have been cited over 50 times (including 9 papers with over 100 citations).
