The research programme themes for the next call are:

1. Lapset ja nuoret – hyvinvoivat tulevaisuuden tekijät

Children and young people – healthy, thriving and capable makers of the future

2. Turvallisuus ja luottamus algoritmien aikakaudella.

Security and trust in the age of algoritms.

Of these two themes, especially the first may be of interest to some of you. Here is some more info in both Finnish and English:

• Lapset ja nuoret – hyvinvoivat tulevaisuuden tekijät.

Teemassa keskitytään lapsiin ja nuoriin yhteiskunnan jäseninä sekä tulevaisuuden tekijöinä ja etsitään tutkimuksen avulla ratkaisuja, joilla turvata kaikkien lasten ja nuorten yhtäläiset mahdollisuudet hyvään elämään sekä turvalliseen kasvuun ja kehitykseen. Lasten ja nuorten hyvinvointi on polarisoitunut. Vaikka suurimmalla osalla lapsista ja nuorista menee hyvin, niin osa voi huonosti. Kriisitilanteet kärjistävät polarisoitumista ja haitalliset seuraukset kasautuvat – rakenteellinen syrjintä lisää tilannekohtaista haavoittuvuutta. Teeman tavoitteena on luoda monitieteisen ja vuorovaikutteisen tutkimuksen keinoin laaja-alaista tietoperustaa, jolla voidaan tukea lasten ja nuorten kehitystä monipuolisiksi ja tulevaisuuteen luottaviksi toimijoiksi heidän omista lähtökohdistaan käsin. Teemassa etsitään tutkimukseen perustuvia ratkaisuja hyvinvointierojen kaventamiseksi ja eriarvoisuuden ehkäisemiseksi.

• Children and young people – healthy, thriving and capable makers of the future.

This theme focuses on children and young people as members of society and as makers of the future. Research under the theme shall seek solutions to ensure equal opportunities for all children and young people for a good life and safe growth and development. The wellbeing of children and young people has become polarised. Although most children and young people are doing well, some are not. Crises lead to increased polarisation, and adverse consequences accumulate – structural discrimination increases situational vulnerability. The objective of this theme is to create, through multidisciplinary and interactive research, a broad knowledge base that can support the development of children and young people into diverse and forward looking actors from their own conditions. The theme seeks research-based solutions to reduce welfare differences and prevent inequalities.
