Biocenter Oulu Transgenic and Tissue Phenotyping (TTP) Core Facility has been updating equipment and increasing sample capacity of the histology laboratory during past couple of years with the support of FIRI funding from Academy of Finland. We have renewed the tissue processor, embedding console, microtome, slide and cassette printers, and supplemented the repertoire with automated slide stainer film cover slipper and one cryostat. We also provide Visiopharm program for automatic identification and quantification of structural features in tissue images. In order to keep the upgraded laboratory continuously operational, we need to introduce a monthly fee per research group, 45€, from the beginning of March 2023. The fee will cover running costs (including reagents, regular maintenance and repairs when needed) of the equipment. Histology lab continues to support preparations for courses and teaching without costs.
The equipment is mainly available for self-use through iLab reservations while our Core service staff operates tissue processing, slide staining and cover slipping. In addition, TTP Core takes care of the every-day maintenance of the equipment and, when necessary, arrange service and repair.
