Medical Research Center Oulu (MRC Oulu) is a strategic research organization of the Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District and the University of Oulu. MRC Oulu offers a multidisciplinary research environment for clinical, translational and health care socioeconomic research, and promotes high level clinical research and internationalization of the research in the field of medical sciences.

 

Description of the position

Open postdoctoral positions are available in MRC Oulu for 2021. The duration of the fixed-term positions vary between 3-6 months, up to a maximum cumulative total of 2 person years. The starting date will be at the earliest in January 2021. The applications will be evaluated by an external evaluation panel based on the qualifications of the applicant. Selection will be based on the external evaluation and an overall assessment by the governing board of MRC Oulu. The results of the call will be announced at the earliest in December 2020.

 

Required qualifications and assessment

The successful candidate must hold a PhD degree in the field of Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedicine, Health Sciences or Medical Technology or other related field. Priority will be given to applicants who are members of a MRC Oulu research group. Docents or docent-level applicants and applicants receiving funding from another Focus Institute (i.e. Biocenter Oulu, Infotech, Thule and Eudaimonia) of the University of Oulu will not be considered.

 

Fluency in both written and spoken English, as well as good communication and teamwork skills are required. Demonstrated experience in writing scientific publications, potential in acquiring supplementary funding and teaching experience will be taken as merits. When assessing the applicant’s qualifications, issues to be considered will include scientific publications, supervision experience, activity in the scientific community and familiarity with the research field.

 

Salary

The successful candidate will be employed at the University of Oulu. The salary will be based on level 5 of the demand level chart for university-level teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component).

 

Application Procedure

Applications, together with all relevant enclosures, must be submitted using the electronic application system by 9 October 2020 at the latest. All applicants will be notified when the selection process is completed.

 

In the application, it should be clearly indicated whether the applicant is/is not a member of MRC Oulu (include the names of research group and the group leader). The following documents (1-3) must be in pdf format and attached to the application:

 

  1. Curriculum vitae (max 3 pages)
  2. List of publications
  3. Research plan (max 2 pages)

 

Research plan must be titled to summarize the main idea of the research, and it must contain the following sections:

  1. Aim and objectives
  2. Implementation
  3. The role of the applicant in the research project
  4. Ethical issues
  5. Research funding plan (including the number of applied research months and the period of research)
  6. Bibliography (not counted towards the length of the research plan)

 

Verified copies of the applicant's academic degree certificates/diplomas (and copies of certificates/diplomas relating to the applicant’s language proficiency, if not indicated in the academic degree certificates/diplomas) must be provided by request in the case of appointment for position.
