Säätiö myöntää apurahoja Suomen kansanterveyttä ja terveitä elämäntapoja edistäviin tutkimuksiin ja terveyttä edistäviin hankkeisiin. Tuen kohteita ovat erityisesti terveysliikunta, terveyttä edistävä ravitsemus, tupakoinnista ja alkoholin ja muiden päihteiden käytöstä johtuvien terveyshaittojen torjuminen, mielenterveyden edistäminen ja ympäristöterveyden edistäminen. Apurahoja voidaan kohdistaa myös asumisen ja rakennusten aiheuttamien terveyshaittojen tutkimiseen.

Säätiö myöntää pääsääntöisesti apurahoja henkilökohtaiseen työskentelyyn,kuten väitöskirjatyöhön ja post doc-tutkimusta varten sekä ryhmille myönnettäviähankeapurahoja. Henkilökohtaiseen työskentelyyn myönnetään apurahoja tyypillisesti kuuden (6) kuukauden tai yhden vuoden työskentelyä varten. Aikaisemminsaadulleapurahalle voidaan uudesta hakemuksesta myöntää jatkoa.

Säätiö voi myöntää apurahoja myös terveyttä edistäviin hankkeisiin edellyttäen, että hankkeeseen liittyy tieteellinen tutkimusosio ja/tai tieteellinen arviointi hankkeen vaikuttavuudesta ja hyödyistä.

Apurahoja voidaan kohdistaa kaikkia säätiön tarkoituksen mukaisia aiheita koskeviin tutkimuksiin ja hankkeisiin. Vuoden 2025 painopistealueena ovat tutkimukset ja hankkeet, joissa selvitetään keinoja terveyskäyttäytymisen muuttamiseen yksilö- tai väestötasolla.

Vuodelle 2025 säätiö myöntää yhden 200 000 euron suurapurahan. Suurapurahalla on tarkoitus tukea merkittävää ja laaja-alaista yhden tai useamman vuoden kestävää tutkimusta tai muuta terveyden edistämishanketta. Suurapurahan hakija voi niin halutessaan hakea samalla hakukierroksella myös säätiön yksivuotista hankeapurahaa, joka voidaan myöntää siinä tapauksessa, jos suurapurahaa ei myönnetä.

Kaikkien vuodelle 2025 myönnettävien säätiön apurahojen hakuaika on syyskuu 2024 eli 1.9.-30.9.2024. Hakuaika päättyy maanantaina 30.9.2024 klo 24.00.

Hakemus on tehtävä säätiön kotisivuilla saatavilla olevaan apurahajärjestelmään. Hakemuksen tai osan siitä voi tehdä myös englannin kielellä. Säätiö ei vastaanota hakemuksia muussa muodossa eikä hakuajan jälkeen toimitettuja hakemuksia.

JUHO VAINIO FOUNDATION INVITES GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR 2025

The foundation grants scholarships for research and projects that promote public health and healthy lifestyles in Finland. The areas of support include especially health-promoting physical activity, health-promoting nutrition, prevention of health harms caused by smoking, alcohol, and other substances, promotion of mental health, and promotion of environmental health. Scholarships can also be allocated to research on health harms caused by housing and buildings.

The foundation primarily grants scholarships for personal work, such as dissertation work and post-doctoral research, as well as project grants awarded to groups. Scholarships for personal work are typically granted for six (6) months or one year of work. Extensions can be granted for previously received scholarships upon a new application.

The foundation can also grant scholarships for health-promoting projects, provided that the project includes a scientific research component and/or a scientific evaluation of the project’s impact and benefits.

Scholarships can be allocated to research and projects related to all topics in line with the foundation’s purpose. The focus area for 2025 is research and projects that explore ways to change health behavior at the individual or population level.

The foundation is also prepared to grant scholarships to Ukrainian researchers.

For 2025, the foundation will award one major grant of 200,000 euros. The purpose of the major grant is to support significant and extensive research or other health promotion projects lasting one or more years. If desired, the applicant for the major grant can also apply for the foundation’s one-year project grant in the same application round, which may be awarded if the major grant is not granted

The application must be made through the scholarship system available on the foundation’s website. The application or part of it can also be made in English. The foundation does not accept applications in any other form or applications submitted after the application period

The application period for all foundation grants awarded for the year 2025 is September 2024, i.e., from 1.9. to 30.9.2024. The application period ends on Monday, 30.9.2024 at 24:00.
