There is a beaten snowmobile track from Praava to Röyttä and thus it is not necessary to have skis. There is a possibility for overnighting in the “saunakamari” for a several persons.

Subject: [Genetics] Friday March 15th : Genetics skiing day

Hello, everybody,

We’ve planned to have a genetics recreation day on Friday this week.

The idea is to go skiing to Röyttä island in Ii and have some fun there (e.g. ice fishing, barbeque and Sauna). More information about Röyttä below.

Please inform me, if you are going to participate and whether you need skis, poles and shoes or if you have an extra pair to be lend.

On based on the number of participants we can then arrange transportation to Praava harbor in Ii and other things.

On behalf of organizing committee

Esa A.

I am afraid that there is not much information in English, but the following pages are giving some information in Finnish on Röyttä:

http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iin_R%C3%B6ytt%C3%A4

http://www.iinroytantoimijat.fi/

http://www.ii.fi/iin_edustan_saaristo/iinroytta

http://www.luontoon.fi/retkikohteet/historiakohteet/vanhatrakennukset/roytanluotsiasema/Sivut/Default.aspx

Might be a good idea to leave before midday, because we should drive first to Praava Harbour: http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/linkki?scale=8000&text=Praava+satama&srs=EPSG%3A3067&y=7241550&x=420195&lang=fi

It takes about half an hour to drive there from Oulu

Moreover, there is 3,5 km skiing or walking from Praava to to Röyttä: http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/kartanhaku/paikannimihaku.html?map.x=459&map.y=203&e=418572&n=7240522&scale=40000&tool=mitta&styles=normal&lang=fi&tool=mitta&lang=fi

And it probably takes an hour.

We can get the key of the Hut of Haukuputaan pursiseura. There is enough space for everybody in the hut. There is also a sauna we can warm and fire place on the yard for roasting sausages.

There is also an igloo on the yard of the hut.

Other activities may include to get acquaintanted with the old buildings in the island.

There will be quite dark after 6 PM, and thus one should have some sort of torch if returning after that.

Yours Jouni
