Hi Some of you have already recieved this message through another mailing list, but many of you have not. So, enclosed is information (first in Finnish, after that in English) about a graduate course in December.
ILMOITUS KURSSISTA / COURSEINFORMATION
Populaatiogenetiikan tutkijakoulu järjestää kurssin "Sekvenssiaineistojen analysointi" Oulussa 3-5.12.2003. Kurssi on tarkoitettu erityisesti tutkijakoulun jäsenille, mutta myös muut kiinnostuneet voivat osallistua tilojen sallimissa rajoissa. Kurssin ohjelma ei ole vielä valmis, mutta ohessa joitain tietoja ja ohjeita ilmoittautumisesta.
Aihe: Sekvenssiaineistojen analysointi Aika: 3-5.12 (alkaen keskiviikkoaamuna kello 9 ja loppuen perjantaina noin kello 17). Paikka: Oulun yliopisto biologian laitos (Linnanmaa) Opettajat: Rosalind Harding (Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Oxford) Gil McVean (Department of Statistics, University of Oxford) Mikkel Schierup (Institute of Biological Sciences, Aarhus University) Ohjelma: - Kurssi käsittelee DNA-polymorfismeja ja niiden analysointia - Kurssilla on luentoja (aamupäivät) ja tietokoneharjoituksia (iltapäivisin) sekä mahdollisuuksien mukaan pienoisseminaareja ja keskusteluja - lopullinen ohjelma lähetetään myöhemmin ja se tulee myös tutkijakoulun kotisivulle http://cc.oulu.fi/~biolwww/PopGenSchool/index.html Suoritus: - Kurssin suorittaminen edellyttää, että laatii hyväksyttävän selostuksen kurssin tietokoneharjoituksista Maksut: - Kursi on maksuton. Tutkijakoulun jäsenille maksetaan matkat ja majoitus, muille varojen mukaan.
Ilmoittautuminen Pekka Pamilolle (pekka.pamilo@oulu.fi) viimeistään 10.11 mennessä. Ilmoittautumisen voi tehdä ensin alustavasti ja sen voi vahvistaa siinä vaiheessa, kun ohjelma on tarkemmin tiedossa. Ilmoita samalla, tarvitsetko majoitusta (ja mille päiville).

The graduate school of population genetics will organize a course "Analysis of DNA sequence data" in Oulu, December 3-5, 2003. The course is directed to the members of the graduate school but other students can participate within the space limitations. The program has not been finalized yet, but below is some information and instructions for registration.
Topic: Analysis of sequence data Time. December 3-5, starting at 9 am Wednesday morning and ending about 5 pm on Friday Location: Department of Biology of the University of Oulu (Linnanmaa) Teachers: Rosalind Harding (Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Oxford) Gil McVean (Department of Statistics, University of Oxford) Mikkel Schierup (Institute of Biological Sciences, Aarhus University) Program: - The course will focus on DNA polymorphisms and the analysis of data - The program includes lectures (in the mornings) and computer excercises (afternoons) and possibly small seminars and discussions - the final schedule will be sent later and it will also appear at our web site http://cc.oulu.fi/~biolwww/PopGenSchool/index.html Credits: - Students get study credits by writing acceptable reports from the computer excercises Fees: - There is no fee. Travel and accomodation expenses are covered for the members of the graduate school (for the others depending on the finances of the school).
Registration should be sent to Pekka Pamilo (pekka.pamilo@oulu.fi) by November 10. It is possible to register first preliminarily and confirm it when the final schedule is available. Specify also if accomodation should be arranged (and for which days).
