POLKUJA TYÖELÄMÄÄN -uraohjausryhmiin haku käynnissä

POLKUJA TYÖELÄMÄÄN -uraohjausjakso tarjoaa mahdollisuuden suunnitella ohjatusti opintoja ja opintojen jälkeistä uraa. Jakso koostuu ryhmätapaamisista sekä yksilötyöskentelystä. Helmikuussa 2007 käynnistetään kolme rinnakkaista monialaista ryhmää, joihin kuhunkin valitaan 8 opiskelijaa. Etusijalla ovat jo pidemmälle opinnoissaan edenneet opiskelijat 3. vuosikurssista alkaen. Uraryhmät kokoontuvat kahdeksan kertaa kahdeksi tunniksi kerrallaan. Kokoontumisten paikkana on ohjaus- ja työelämäpalveluiden neuvotteluhuone (Opintokatu KE1143). Ryhmään osallistuvilta edellytetään sitoutumista koko uraohjausjakson ajalle. Ryhmätapaamisten teemat ovat: -Aloituskokoontuminen, lähtötilanteen kartoitus (vko 6) -Itsetuntemus, kiinnostuksen alueet (vko 7) -Itsetuntemus, oman osaamisen jäsentäminen (vko 8) -Työelämän osaamisvaatimukset (vko 9) -Minun työmarkkinani -kiinnostavat vaihtoehdot (vko 10) -Työnhaku ja työnhaun asiakirjat (vko 11) -Toimintasuunnitelman laatiminen (vko 12) -Yhteenveto ja jakson päätös (vko 13) Ryhmien kokoontumisajat: -Uraryhmä 1: tiistaisin klo 10-12 alkaen 6.2.07 -Uraryhmä 2: keskiviikkoisin klo 10-12 alkaen 7.2.07 -Uraryhmä 3: torstaisin klo 10-12 alkean 8.2.07 Ryhmiin haetaan täyttämällä hakulomake osoitteessa: http://www.oulu.fi/careerservices/pt_ilmoittautuminen.html Hakuaika päättyy perjantaina 19.1.07 klo 16.15. Dear all, Due to late changes by the biology department there is a clash of timetables on Thursday this week. So you don't have to clone yourselves to be in both lectures at the same time the Protein Chemistry I lecture previously scheduled for 10-12 has been moved to 12-2 (still in BK130). Oulun työvoimatoimiston akateemisten palvelupisteen työvoimaohjaaja vierailee ohjaus- ja työelämäpalveluissa kertomassa työvoimahallinnon palveluista akateemisille. Infotilaisuus pidetään tiistaina 30.1.2007 ohjaus- ja työelämäpalveluiden neuvotteluhuoneessa (Opintokatu, KE1143). Infotilaisuus on tarkoitettu valmistumisvaiheessa oleville (2-3 kk valmistumiseen) ja vastavalmistuneille. Mukaan mahtuu 10 nopeinta ilmoittautumisten perusteella. New MSc advert

Dear all, The new NordProt web site is up and running and so we now need to advertise the new international MSc in Protein Science and Biotechnology. Since time is very short this year we plan to do this by word of mouth i.e. to send an email with an advert to all of our contacts. Since we have so many nationalities in the department and so many international collaborations listed we should be able to get it placed reasonably widely. So please send emails to all of your international contacts requesting that the attached advert but put on their student noticeboard and that they bring it to the attention of any students they think might be interested. Since we want to monitor where we send it vs where we get applications from, please could you send a list of who you send it to in the format: Insititute, country to Jaana Jurvansuu [jaajurva(a)cc.oulu.fi]. Since the deadline for applications is 31st January we need to send the advert out ASAP and your help is very much appreciated. Finally to remind you while the new international MSc will start in Sept 2007, the new MSc degrees aimed at our new BSc students will start in Sept 2008. Tukea kansainväliseen harjoitteluun

TUKEA KANSAINVÄLISEEN HARJOITTELUUN Oulun yliopiston perustutkinto-opiskelijoilla on mahdollisuus hakea tukea ulkomailla suoritettavaan harjoitteluun. Tuki on tarkoitettu niille opiskelijoille, jotka ovat itsenäisesti hankkineet harjoittelupaikan ulkomailta eivätkä saa harjoittelulleen muuta rahallista tukea (esim. stipendiä) eikä työnantaja maksa harjoittelusta palkkaa. Huom. tukea ei voida myöntää aineenopettajaksi tai luokanopettajaksi opiskeleville, poikkeuksena kuitenkin Master of Education -koulutuksessa opiskelevat. Tukea voidaan myöntää 10-13 opiskelijalle 3-5 kk kestäville harjoittelujaksoille. Tuen saamisen edellytyksenä on, että -harjoittelu kuuluu opintoihin joko pakollisena tai vapaavalintaisena ja siitä saa opintosuorituksen -harjoittelu on sisällöllisesti oman ainelaitoksen hyväksymä -harjoittelusta ei makseta palkkaa, eikä siihen saa muuta tukea -harjoittelu kestää vähintään 3 kk -opiskelija ei ole aikaisemmin suorittanut oman laitoksen tukemaa harjoittelua kotimassa tai ulkomailla Harjoittelun tuki maksetaan palkkana ja sen suuruus on 1100 e/kk. Harjoittelu tulee suorittaa vuoden 2007 aikana. Tukea haetaan vapaamuotoisella hakemuksella, josta käy ilmi perustelu tuen tarpeellisuudelle sekä kuvaus siitä miten harjoittelu tukee opintoja ja omaa ammatillista kehittymistä. Liitteeksi tulee laittaa opintosuoritusote, ansioluettelo sekä alustava sopimus/vahvistus harjoittelupaikasta työnantajalta. Hakemukset osoitetaan Oulun yliopiston ohjaus- ja työelämäpalveluille. Hakuaika päättyy torstaina 15.3.2007 klo 16:15. Hakuajan päättymisen jälkeen tulleita hakemuksia ei huomioida. Lisätietoja voi kysyä allekirjoittaneelta. 2nd year students

Dear all, Just three quick points for the 2nd year students. 1) As well as your biochemistry courses you should remember to sign up for English for Biochemists II as soon as possible. Sign-up for this compulsory course (902101Y), which is linked to Protein Chemistry I and Biochemical methods II, is via WebOodi. Only 3 students have signed up to date. 2) For some of the spring term classes you will be joined by Emmanuel Doh Nji, a student with a 1st class BSc in biochemistry who is doing some bridging studies before starting the new International MSc in September 2007. I hope you will all make him feel welcome. 3) This term you have the first of your optional BSc courses. While we believe that the suggested optional courses will lead to a balanced BSc in biochemistry (and with no timetable clashes), please actively consider your options and decide what will help you achieve your long term goals. Do not just "drift" into the suggested optional courses as the "easy no-thought option", make an active choice. Degrees offered by Biochemistry

Dear all, Just to clarify an issue arising. Before Christmas there was a request for anyone feeling artistic to design a logo for a new venture "Nord Prot" a zero budget organisation designed to help promote protein science in Oulu, with input from Oulu University of Applied Sciences, Biocenter Oulu and other departments at the University of Oulu. Along with this is the launch of a new international MSc in Protein Science and Biotechnology by our department. I hope that both of these initiatives will benefit the department, but they do not mean a shift in emphasis by the department. As the FM is phased-out, the department will continue to offer a 3-year BSc in Biochemistry which is designed to be balanced across all aspects of biochemistry. In addition from September 2008 we will offer 2-year MSc degree programmes designed specifically to allow our BSc students to specialise in either "Molecular and Cellular Biology" or "Protein Science and Biotechnology". While protein science has, and will continue to be, promoted in the department, so to will other areas of biochemistry. In the next month there should be an open call for a new Professorship to strengthen Cellular Biochemistry, following on from the Senior lecturer position in Cell biology filled last year. New cell biology laboratories are planned and the recent purchase of RT-PCR, flow cytometric, stopped-flow and quenched-flow equipment demonstrates the breadth of our interests and commitments. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to getting Nord Prot and the new MSc off the ground over Christmas. The advert for the new MSc and the new Nord Prot web site will (hopefully) be launched on Monday. So far we have one entry for the Nord Prot logo, but there are still a few days left if anyone else is feeling artistic. VBW, Lloyd
