A Ph. D. student position is available in our breast cancer genetics
research group at the University of Oulu and Biocenter Oulu. The person
we are looking for should hold a suitable M. Sc. or Med. Lic. degree and
be well-organized and highly motivated to do research on cancer
genetics. A successful candidate will participate in the identification
of novel genes involved in hereditary predisposition to breast cancer by
various approches (screening of candidate genes acting in suitable
biological pathways, SNP association analysis, etc.), functional and
clinical assessment of observed constitutional gene alterations, as well
as characterization and comparison of somatic DNA aberration profiles
between different breast carcinoma subgroups.
Our research team has recently identified multiple novel breast cancer
susceptibility genes. Particularly the founder mutations observed in
/PALB2/ and /RAD50 /seem important in the Finnish population.
Long-term funding for our reseach is currently available from multiple
different sources (Academy of Finland, Sigrid Juselius Foundation,
Finnish Cancer Foundation, etc.).
