The general interest of our lab is to investigate the mechanisms that regulate mitochondria and mitochondrial DNA during development and in a tissue-specific manner to understand factors important in mediating human mitochondrial diseases. The Department of Applied Chemistry and Microbiology is the largest of the nine departments of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at the University of Helsinki. Research groups at the Department work in well-equipped laboratories, which provide excellent facilities to carry out the work. The PhD student will work in a project called: Plant viral particles as nanoscaffolds for the selective attachment and presentation of enzymes on solid supports. This project pertains to the research field of solid phase supported biocatalysis with potential applications in the microreactor and biosensor technologies. The intention is to study the possibilities to control the distribution of active enzymatic systems on solid supports. This research employs biochemical and molecular biology methods. This is a joint project between Dr. Mäkinen and Dr Thierry Michon at the INRA center of Bordeaux, France. The PhD student will be supervised jointly by both principal investigators of this project and part of the work is planned to be carried out at Bordeaux. Good evening to everyone, This is just a reminder of tomorrow's baseball game that takes place at the ONK upper elementary/high school sports field, starting at 1800 o'clock. The weather forecast at the moment promises just fine weather for baseball, so the game is most definitely still on. I'm going to repeat myself here and remind yet again that everyone is more than welcome to participate in playing. Heres hoping we'll see some people new to baseball on the field. Kurssi järjestetään Normaalikoulun ala-asteella 13. - 14. kesäkuuta. Baseball Wed 10.6. at 1800 o'clock

Greetings to everyone, Histoni will be playing baseball 10.6., next Wednesday, on the ONK high/upper elementary school sports field starting at 1800 o'clock. Like always with Histoni's sporting events, everyone is very much welcome to come and enjoy the best and only Finnish national sport. Previous knowledge of the game or the rules is not required in any way, I or someone else will gladly explain the rules to those unfamiliar with them. You can only expect the unexpected from the finnish summer weather. Therefore if its raining cows and sheep at the zero hour, the game is canceled. Don't even bother showing up if it indeed rains. Summary What: Baseball, the national sport of Finland. Where: ONK high/upper elementary school sports field. This is NOT the field the staff vs students football match was played on. You can find the field practically at the northern end of Yliopistokatu. When: Wednesday the 10th of June at 1800 hours. Why: Because baseball is loads of fun.
