Description of the work group/equivalent and its work/focus:
Work involves developing and managing the robotic equipment and
computational infrastructure of the Karolinska High Throughput Center
(KHTC). KHTC is located in the Department of Bioscience and Nutrition at the
Karolinska Institutet (KI). The KHTC hosts state-of-the-art liquid handling
instrumentation and an automated laboratory that can be applied to a wide
variety of high-throughput/genome-wide screens using drug-like small
molecules and/or gene over- and underexpression. In addition, the laboratory
will include two Illumina Hiseq 2000 massively parallel sequencers and
associated server infrastructure. The KHTC is located adjacent to the
medical systems biology research group headed by Prof. Taipale that consists
of six postdoctoral scientists and two graduate students from biomedical and
computational sciences.
Area of responsibilities/duties:
The successful candidate will work under the facility Director (Professor
Jussi Taipale) to develop, manage and maintain the equipment infrastructure
of KHTC. In addition, he or she will plan and implement new automation,
screening and data analysis pipelines. Duties include design and development
of automated liquid handling processes using graphical and command line
interfaces, and development of maintenance of the sequence data analysis
pipeline and Linux server(s).
Qualifications:
We are looking for a motivated applicant with very good organizational and
communication skills in English and ability to work independently. The
applicants should have a minimum of Masters degree or equivalent in
biological or engineering sciences. A Ph.D. and postdoctoral training are
considered a benefit. The position requires significant and broad-based
programming skills, including ability to operate and manage a Linux server
and develop software for controlling automated instruments and to handle and
analyze large datasets. Experience in developing or operating automation
pipelines or high-throughput scientific instruments, and good working
knowledge of Swedish and/or Finnish are also desirable but not required.
Individuals interested in combining the work with advanced studies will also
be considered.
