Hei This email do not concern international students Eläinfysiologian harjoituksiin ilmoittautuminen on auki weboodissa. Jos olet menossa niin käy ilmoittautumassa ajoissa. harkoissa on 3 ryhmää. ryhmä 1 (tiistai klo 13-17) sopii 3v biokemisteille parhaiten. Ryhmä-2:ssa (keskiviikko 8-12) on päällekkäisyys kemiallisen rakennetutkimuksen ja orgaanisen kemian labrojen kanssa. A position for the experienced doctoral student in the field of RNA Polymerase II Gene Regulation is open in Barboric laboratory at the Institute of Biomedicine, Department of Biochemistry & Developmental Biology at University of Helsinki. My research group, which consists of three doctoral students, a postdoc and a senior scientist, investigates mechanisms that control transcription elongation by RNA polymerase II. This phase in gene transcription has emerged only recently as a major regulatory step in metazoan gene expression. By using biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics and systems biology approaches, we are seeking to understand biological roles P-TEFb and Cdk12/CycK complexes, key transcription elongation kinases, their function in mRNA synthesis and processing, as well as the significance of RNA polymerase II elongation control in human diseases such as cancer. Requirements I am looking for a creative and independent thinker with a strong passion for science and the ability to excel in a competitive field of gene transcription. The competitive candidate should hold PhD degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics or related fields. Expertise in biochemistry or in the analysis of sequencing data is a pre-requisite for the position. Excellent publication record as well as good command in spoken and written English is required. PhD student position is now available at the Neuroscience Center, University of Helsinki, in the lab of Tomi Rantamäki. The team focuses in understanding the molecular, system and functional level mechanisms governing the antidepressant-like, neurotrophic and neuroplastic actions of isoflurane in experimental models. Moreover, the therapeutic potential of isoflurane and related medications will be investigated in animal models of nervous system disorders that are beneficially treated with antidepressants and other neurotrophic/neuroplastic therapies. Ultimate goal is to translate the findings into clinical situations through collaborators. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated person with an M.Sc. degree in neuroscience, pharmacology or molecular neurobiology. The candidate should be able to perform basic neurobiological, pharmacological and behavioral methods. Previous experience in performing animal surgeries and curriculum of education in laboratory animal science are considered very beneficial. The successful candidate should also have strong communication skills in English and be highly organized. Salary will be based on the University salary system for teaching and research personnel, and composed of both task related and personal performance components. FW: looking for a PhD/post-doc candidate

Hi all, I am looking for a candidate that would be willing to apply for his/her own 3-year funding (together with the PIs), for starting a collaborative project in Bergen, Norway. This could be either a PhD student or a post-doc application, from a local research fund at the Bergen health district. The project will deal with the identification and analysis of protein-protein interaction networks involved in mental disorders, such as autism and ADHD. Based on large-scale sequencing and proteomics data, relevant interactions are identified and studied further also at the molecular level. The work is a collaboration between 3 PIs: myself, Jan Haavik (Bergen), and Stephen Faraone (SUNY New York). A strong background in molecular biology and protein biochemistry will be essential; a good track record will be required for a successful application. The project would be mainly carried out at the Department of Biomedicine, Bergen, in my new lab and in that of Prof. Haavik. If you know of a suitable candidate, in Oulu or elsewhere, feel free to forward this information (or if you consider yourself one, just contact me).
