Hei BMTK:n henkilökunta ja opiskelijat! Biokemian kandidaatintutkielmaan kuuluu tiedettä popularisoiva osuus, jossa opiskelijat tekevät tutkielmastaan posterin, lehtiartikkelin tai muun esityksen valitsemalleen kohdeyleisölle pyrkien popularisoimaan tutkielmansa aihetta. Näitä töitä on tavan mukaan esillä "posterisessiossa" torstaina 17.5. klo 11.30-12.30 Kiepin ala-aulassa. Tule tutustumaan ja jututtamaan tekijöitä. Esillä on 12 työtä ja aiheet vaihtelevat mm. eri sairauksista viruksiin ja muihin kiinnostaviin biokemiallisiin teemoihin. Äänestä mielestäsi "parasta" työtä ja voit voittaa leffalipun! --------------------- Hi all the staff and students of FBMM! A science popularized presentation is part of our BSc theses. Students make a poster, a popular article or other type of presentation on the topic of their thesis. A traditional "poster session" takes place on Thursday 17.5. at 11.30-12.30 in the Kieppi building foyer. Come and see the presentations and talk with the students. There are 12 presentations with topics ranging from various diseases to viruses and other interesting biochemistry. Etsimme väitöskirjatyöntekijää!/Looking for a PhD student

Tervehdys/Hi (briefly in English in the end of this message), Oletko valmistunut/valmistumassa maisteriksi ja yhtenä vaihtoehtona olisi väikkärin tekeminen? Yhteistyöprojektimme Biocenterissä (NANOMO/Lääkis) etsii väitöskirjatyöntekijää poikkitieteelliseen projektiin, jossa uudenlaista kuvantamistekniikkaa sovelletaan biologisiin potilas- ja hiirikudosnäytteisiin. Haluamme tutkia, miten menetelmää voisi hyödyntää esimerkiksi kertymäsairauksien diagnostiikassa käyttäen mallina niin tunnettuja, kuin aiemmin tuntemattomiakin sairauksia. Pakettiin kuuluu kolme ohjaajaa kukin omalta erityisosaamisalaltaan: pääohjaaja dosentti Minna Patanen (Fysiikka, STXM), FT Ilkka Miinalainen (elektronimikroskopia) ja allekirjoittanut, Salla (FT, biokemia/lääketiede). Projektille on olemassa nelivuotinen rahoitus. Tässä vaiheessa riittää että sinulla on osaamista joltakin sopivalta osa-alueelta, kuten vaikkapa (bio-)fysiikka, biokemia/solubiologia, biolääketiede tai kuvantaminen, ja projektin myötä opiskelet ja opit sitten muista osa-alueista tarpeen mukaan. Lisäksi projekti tulee toki räätälöitymään opiskelijan osaamisen ja kiinnostuksen mukaan. Open Master's thesis position in Prof. Jukka Hakkola's lab

Hey! We are looking for a motivated MSc thesis worker (biochemistry or biology student) for our research project on Intestinal Pregnane X Receptor in Energy Metabolism. Our group studies how pharmacologically relevant nuclear receptors modulate energy metabolism with state-of-the-art in vivo and in vitro methods. During the project, the thesis worker will get familiar with various methods, including studying transcriptomic changes with RNA sequencing, in vivo metabolism studies and adenovirus-mediated gene transfer, and preparing and culturing primary mouse hepatocytes. The candidate should be eligible to conduct experiments on mice. The project should be started earliest in May-June or later in August or September 2018. The project is conducted in the University of Oulu Medical Faculty, Biomedicine Research Unit, Pharmacology and Toxicology in Prof. Jukka Hakkola's research group in Kontinkangas campus. A researcher position is available in the Chlamydia Research Lab, at the Department of Virology, University of Helsinki (Meilahti campus), in the laboratory of Dr. Mirja Puolakkainen Our research interests include bacteria of the order Chlamydiales, and infections caused by them. The research projects utilize methods such as cell culture, infection experiments, production of heterologous proteins, EIA serology, qPCR, microscopy and NGS. In addition to Chlamydia trachomatis and Chlamydia pneumoniae, we are interested in the newly discovered Chlamydiales bacteria (Chlamydia-related bacteria) and study their epidemiology, detection and pathogenic potential. The successful candidate will aim at MSc or hold a MSc or PhD and have interest in microbiological research. Also, experience in the above mentioned techniques is most desirable. The duration of the project is 1 year. The starting date is August 1, 2018, or as soon as possible thereafter.
