Kiinnostaako soitto rennossa biokemistiporukassa? Liity HeLaan!
Histonin oma bändi HeLa soittaa bilemusiikkia opiskelijajuhlissa. Bändi soittaa monipuolisesti pop- rock- ja funkbiisejä satunnaisin internet-meemein kourrutettuna.
Etsimme joukkoomme uutta basistia.
HeLa treenaa noin kerran viikossa Linnanmaan kiltakompleksilla. Roudaamme soittimet paikalle ennen treenejä kimppakyydillä. Jos et omista bassoa tällä hetkellä, voimme tarvittaessa järjestää lainabasson.
Tervetuloa joukkoon!

Are you interested in playing in a band with fellow biochemistry students? Join HeLa!
HeLa is the official band of Histoni! We play party music in the events of Histoni. We play a diverse range of styles ranging from pop and rock to funk, with some internet memes added in for fun.
We are looking for a new bass guitar player at the moment. Previous experience from playing in a band is not required, and we tailor our sets to the level of players. Only thing you need to know is the basics of playing bass guitar, different keys and basic scales.
HeLa trains about once a week at the guild complex of Linnanmaa. We share a car to transport the instruments, and it is also possible to borrow a bass guitar.
Welcome to the crew!

Subject: PhD student position in Professor Annamari Ranki’s group to study targeted treatment of autoimmune disorders (Skin and allergy hospital, Helsinki University Hospital)
PhD student position for 4 years is available in the research group led by professor Annamari Ranki to study targeted treatment of autoimmune disorders. The full-time position will start immediately.
Our research group has facilities both at Biomedicum Helsinki and at the Department of Dermatology and allergology, Skin and allergy hospital, Helsinki University Hospital (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/faculty-of-medicine/departments-of-dermatology-a… ).
Our group is funded by the Academy of Finland, Cancer Foundation Finland and Helsinki University Hospital Research Funds. We are part of the Medical Faculty’s Translational Immunology Research Programme as well as participate in multiple collaborations within and outside of Finland.
We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic candidates with a Master’s degree in cell/molecular biology, developmental biology, bioengineering, biomedicine, or other appropriate field. The applicant should have practical experience of standard cell biology techniques. Previous experience in molecular biology and gene expression analysis is considered an advantage. We also expect good communication skills (both Finnish and English) and ability to interact efficiently in a team.
Our overall goal is to define and develop a curative cell-based treatment for the severe multi-organ genetic disease autoimmune-polyendocrinopathy-candidiasis- ectodermal dystrophy. APECED is caused by loss-of-function mutations in the AIRE gene which is the master regulator of immune tolerance, operating both in the thymus and in peripheral lymphoid organs. We currently work with iPSCs derived from APECED patients, correct the mutated gene by lentiviral introduction and in collaboration with international partners aim to redifferentiate the gene-corrected cells to the phenotypes that normally express AIRE. The efficiency and engrafting potential of the gene-corrected cells will be tested in vivo in animal models.
We will offer a competitive salary based on previous qualifications, experience and personal performance in the position according to University pay-scale. A six-month trial period will be applied.
We use a wide range of molecular, cellular, and imaging techniques and thus offer a multidisciplinary, international and inspiring research environment with access to state-of-the art technologies.
For informal inquiries, please, contact Annika.Hau(a)helsinki.fi<mailto:Annika.Hau@helsinki.fi>
The deadline for submitting applications is January 28th, 2019, but review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Send the application to: Annamari.Ranki(a)hus.fi<mailto:Annamari.Ranki@hus.fi>
The application should include the following documents, either in Finnish or in English
1. A motivation letter describing your research interests (max 1 page)
2. Curriculum vitae and qualifications
3. A complete list of publications.
4. Contact details for two reference persons.

Subject: The group of Pia Siljander is seeking enthusiastic and goal-oriented extracellular vesicle (EV) researchers for a research project in the Molecular and Integrative Biosciences research program, University of Helsinki
The group of Pia Siljander is seeking enthusiastic and goal-oriented extracellular vesicle (EV) researchers for 1) an invention/product development project and 2) an academic research project in the Molecular and Integrative Biosciences research program, University of Helsinki, located in Viikki. Part of the project 1 will also be carried out in the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM), Helsinki. Our laboratory, which also hosts a dedicated EV Core facility, specializes in cutting edge EV technologies and research.
RESEARCHER 1
Project 1 and responsibilities
In this Business Finland -funded project, we develop innovative EV isolation technologies and study the possibilities for their commercialization. Specifically, the work involves optimization of new technologies to carry out high-throughput or mass-volume isolations and analysis of EVs. The target sample materials are plasma and other body fluids as well as cell culture media. The work consists of testing different isolation conditions, plate formats and automatization in comparison to existing methods. The quality of the isolates will be evaluated by EV-dedicated methodologies and equipment (including flow cytometry), through omics testing and usual molecular biology methods. The results will be published as technical notes, where our technology is compared to existing methods. The project offers a unique opportunity for bioscience-related commercialization for instance due
to the project participation in SPARK-Finland, and is therefore especially well-suited for researchers interested in developing contacts outside the university. The project started
15.10.2018 and will end 15.4.2020.
RESEARCHER 2
Project 2 and responsibilities
In project 2, the researcher participates in two successive academic EV subprojects. The first Academy of Finland-funded subproject is on-going and focuses on the roles of platelet-derived EVs in cardiovascular disease. The work involves RNA transcriptomics analyses, cytokine assays, cell cultures and EV-flow cytometry (Apogee). The second subproject of EV research standardization that will be started later involves isolation and characterization of urine vesicles and measuring various reference materials with nanoparticle tracking analysis and Apogee flow cytometry. The project duration is currently estimated until 31.12.2019. The results will be published in academic journals.
Qualifications
A successful candidate (PhD or MSc) has a curious and innovative mind and holds a good knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry techniques. We especially value experience in protein and lipid chemistry and flow cytometry. In addition, experience in different sample materials, EV technologies, cell culture or viral work is advantageous. The successful candidate has good team working and project management skills.
Salary, applications and contact information
Salary will be based on the University salary scheme depending on the academic degree/work experience. The start date can be set according to agreement, but preference will be given to candidates who can start immediately.
More information about the EV group and EV Core can be found here:
https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/extracellular-vesicleshttps://www.fimm.fi/en/services/technology-centre/extracellular-vesicles
Application and questions for researcher position 1 should be sent to maija.puhka(a)helsinki.fi<mailto:maija.puhka@helsinki.fi> and pia.siljander(a)helsinki.fi<mailto:pia.siljander@helsinki.fi>, and for researcher position 2 to mari.palviainen(a)helsinki.fi<mailto:mari.palviainen@helsinki.fi> and pia.siljander(a)helsinki.fi<mailto:pia.siljander@helsinki.fi>. For both, please use the subject line "open researcher position".
Applications are invited immediately and the position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
Applications should have a cover letter describing the qualifications of the candidate, CV and two references from past employment.
