Successful candidates must commit to researcher training within Health and Biosciences Doctoral Programme with full-time work and to completing their degree within four years. DP-HBS gathers clinical medicine, biomedicine, biochemistry, molecular medicine, dentistry, health sciences, medical technology and biology under the umbrella of a multidisciplinary training programme. In the current call, there are four (4) full-time positions available in DP-HBS for 2021-2024. Eligibility and Requirements An eligible candidate has a Master’s degree or an equivalent degree in a field relevant to the applied field. The major subject of the doctoral student is expected to be in the Doctoral Degree Programme of Medicine, Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, Health Sciences, Dentistry or Biology. The degree must have been completed before the selection with at least good grades. Applicants are expected to be at the very early stage of research, in practice starting their doctoral training with this position. If they already have doctoral study rights in University of Oulu or elsewhere, they need to explain why they should still be considered as starters and early-stage researchers. Any applicant who has received doctoral study rights 30.11.2019, or before, are ineligible to apply. Selected candidates must meet all the requirements to receive doctoral study rights as defined in: http://www.oulu.fi/uniogs/requirements_for_admission. In student selection, priority will be given to such doctoral students whose supervisor is not receiving strategic funding related to doctoral training from the University of Oulu during the applicable term, i.e. 2021 onwards. Prior to submitting, applicants are expected to find a prospective main supervisor in an eligible research unit. Applicants are advised to seek potential supervisors in the faculty web pages (https://www.oulu.fi/university/node/35079). The proposed main supervisor must clearly be identified in the application form (full name, title, position, faculty and research unit at the University of Oulu). A letter from the proposed supervisor willing to commit for supervision must be attached into the applicant’s set of documents (see below). Unless explicitly stated otherwise, the commitment letter does not bind the proposed supervisor to any commitment, if the applicant is not selected into the doctoral student position applied here and for which the letter of support was provided. Salary and key terms The salary of selected doctoral students will be initially set on level 2, and later on levels 2 – 4 of the national salary scale for the teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a supplementary remuneration is given for personal achievement and performance (max. 50 %). In practice, the salary is roughly 2200 – 2700 € per month for an early stage researcher, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and progress of the doctoral thesis. Since this call is for starting doctoral researchers, the positions are filled at its earliest April 1, 2021 and ending December 31, 2024. A six-month trial period is applied in the positions. CV: Including a list of all peer-reviewed scientific publications with full reference details. 2. Motivation letter: Describing prior knowledge, research interests and career plan (max 1 page). 3. Certificates/Diplomas: Scanned electronic copies of diplomas and transcripts of the records of relevant previous degrees. If the original documents are not in Finnish, Swedish or English, each document must be accompanied by an official certified translation into Finnish or English. 4. Research plan approved by the supervisor: Please follow the structure given in the guidelines of the Academy of Finland (https://www.aka.fi/en/research-funding/apply-for-funding/how-to-apply-for-f…) However, for the current purpose, the texts under the given section headings need not cover all bullet points in the guidelines, and the maximum length of the (draft) plan’s body of text must not exceed 3 pages with 10-12 point font size and with at least 1,5 cm margins. A fourth page can be used for the list of references only. Thus, the max total length of the plan including the references is 4 pages. Exceeding the page limit will either result in disqualification or removal of the extra pages from the document. 5. Letter of provisional commitment from the supervisor (https://www.oulu.fi/uniogs/node/208876 pre-formulated form that must be used): In this document the eligible supervisor (either a professor or a docent level researcher who is employed by the University of Oulu) states his/her willingness to act as the supervisor for the applicant. Commitment letter must include the provisional supervisor’s assurance that the research unit director is aware of and committed to the financial obligations related to these positions. The University will cover only part of the costs related to this position and the unit will cover the rest. Typically, 20-35% of the salary and sidecosts remain to be covered by research unit. All other other costs are to be covered by research unit. You will be the part of the multifaceted projects aimed at understanding the role of extracellular vesicles in osteosarcoma development and progression; developing 3D models for osteosarcoma; bone tissue engineering/applications of biomaterials and stem cells. In addition to strong written and oral communication skills, experience with techniques in cell and molecular biology, cell imaging, RNA sequencing, biochemistry and bioengineering are considered favorable. *In English Below!* Oulun Luonnontieteilijät ry:n hallitus piti vuoden ensimmäisen kokouksensa 5.1.2021. Alla tiivistelmä kokouksen tärkeimmistä kohdista ja tämän sähköpostin liitteenä kokouspöytäkirja. *Todettiin hallituksen kokoonpano ja hallitusten jäsenten toimenkuvat seuraavasti:* Essi Maaranen - tiedottaja, somevastaava Aleksi Siipola - suhdevastaava Kaarle Kaunisto - koulutuspoliittinen vastaava Iikka Kokkoniemi - tapahtumavastaava Sonja Lecler - tapahtumavastaava Aleksi Värttö - tapahtumavastaava Essi Väänänen - fuksivastaava Pauliina Järvinen - sosiaalipoliittinen vastaava *(nimitetään kevätkokouksessa)* Riika Poutanen – vuosijuhlamestari *Aiemmin valitut hallituksen jäsenet:* Saara Hänninen - puheenjohtaja Kaarin Hälinen - sihteeri Konsta Saarijärvi - taloudenhoitaja Janne Eskelinen - varapuheenjohtaja Nimitettiin Loimu-vastaavaksi Riika Poutanen ja Konsta Saarijärvi. Nimitettiin Aapo Nyman tapahtuma-apuriksi. Valitaan Pauliina Järvinen sosiaalipoliittiseksi vastaavaksi. Vaihdetaan tilinkäyttöoikeudet ja hankitaan verkkopankkitunnukset sekä pankkikortit puheenjohtajalle, taloudenhoitajalle ja vuosijuhlatoimikunnan puheenjohtajalle. Killan nimenkirjoitusoikeudet muutetaan puheenjohtajalle sekä pääsihteerille, varapuheenjohtajalle ja taloudenhoitajalle. *Kevään tapahtumia:* *Hallitustenvaihto *järjestetään 20.1. Zoomissa etäyhteydellä. *OLuT-kyykän* järjestämistä harkitaan. Tapahtuma järjestetään, mikäli pandemiarajoitukset sen sallivat. Mikäli tapahtuma järjestetään, se tullaan järjestämään aikaisintaan helmikuun lopulla tai maaliskuun aikana. *Umpihankifutiksen *järjestämistä harkitaan. Tapahtuma järjestetään, mikäli pandemiarajoitukset sen sallivat. *Työelämäsauna *järjestetään mahdollisesti Zoomissa webinaarin muodossa. Tässä tapahtumassa Tekniikan akateemiset TEK ja Luonnon-, ympäristö- ja metsätieteilijöiden liitto Loimu ovat perinteisesti esittäytyneet opiskelijoille. Tapahtuma pyritään järjestämään tammikuun lopulla tai helmikuun alulla. *Avantouinnin *järjestämistä harkitaan. *Isomman etätapahtuman* järjestämistä harkitaan. After Lecture on varannut Oulun luonnontieteilijöille *200 risteilyohjus-haalarimerkkiä*. Selvitetään, kuinka moni on kiinnostunut merkin tilaamisesta. Mikäli kiinnostuneita on enemmän kuin 200, merkit myydään tilausjärjestyksessä. Jokainen henkilö voi tilata tilauslomakkeen kautta yhden merkin. Kiinnostuneet täyttävät *tilauslomakkeen 31.1.2021* mennessä. *OLuT-Vuosijuhlat:* Vuosijuhlamestari Riika Poutanen kertoi siitä, miten vuosijuhlien suunnittelu on tähän mennessä edennyt. Avataan uusi tili vuosijuhlien raha-asioiden hoitoon, ja annetaan uuden tilin käyttöoikeudet puheenjohtajalle, taloudenhoitajalle ja vuosijuhlatoimikunnan puheenjohtajalle. Keskusteltiin lyhyesti vuosijuhlien sponsorointiin liittyvistä asioista ja OLuT ry:n sponsoripaketeista. OLuT-Vuosijuhlat järjestetään alustavasti *syksyllä 2021*. Valittiin Oluensiksen päätoimittajaksi Kaarin Hälinen. Valittiin toimituksen jäseniksi Markus Raatikainen, Riika Poutanen ja Janne Eskelinen. Etsitään toimitukseen myös muita innokkaita kirjoittajia. ___________ *In English * Oulun Luonnontieteilijät ry board had its first meeting for this year on the 5th of January. Below a short summary from the meeting and attached to this e-mail the meeting minutes (in Finnish). *New board of Oulun Luonnontieteilijät ry:* Essi Maaranen - director of communications and social media Aleksi Siipola - director of public relations Kaarle Kaunisto - educational affairs Iikka Kokkoniemi - event official Sonja Lecler - event official Aleksi Värttö - event official Essi Väänänen - freshmen affairs Pauliina Järvinen - social affairs *(appointed to the position at the spring meeting)* Riika Poutanen – the chair of the anniversary committee *Board members selected before this meeting:* Saara Hänninen - chair Kaarin Hälinen - secretary Konsta Saarijärvi - treasurer Janne Eskelinen – vice-chair New Loimu affairs are Riika Poutanen and Konsta Saarijärvi Aapo Nyman was selected as event assistant. Pauliina Järvinen was chosen responsible for social affairs. The rights to use Oulun Luonnontieteilijät ry bank accounts, online banking IDs and bank cards will be transferred from previous chair and treasurer to our new chair, treasurer, and the chair of the anniversary committee. The rights to sign as Oulun Luonnontieteilijät ry are held by our chair, secretary, vice-chair and treasurer. *Upcoming events:* *Board Changing event *(Hallitustenvaihto) 20.1. remotely at Zoom. *OLuT-kyykkä* will be considered later this spring. Event might be organized if the pandemic restrictions are eased. If the event is held, it will take place during the end of February or during March. *Snow football* will be considered later this spring. Event might be organized if the pandemic restrictions are eased. *Loimu and TEK career evening* might be organized remotely at Zoom. In this event Academic Engineers And Architects In Finland TEK and The Union of Professionals in Natural, Environmental and Forestry Sciences Loimu have traditionally introduced themselves to students. The event will be organized in the form of a webinar in late January or early February. *Ice swimming *will be considered later this spring. *A larger remote event *is being considered later this spring. After Lecture has reserved *200 risteilyohjus-overall badges* for natural scientists in Oulu. We will find out how many people are interested in ordering the badges. If there are more than 200 people interested, the badges will be sold to the first 200 people to fill out the form. Each person can order one badge via the order form. Those interested must *fill in the order form by 31 January 2021*. *OLuT-Anniversary Ball:* The chair of the anniversary committee Riika Poutanen told about how the planning of the annual ball has progressed so far. A new account will be opened for the financial management of the anniversary, and the new account will be granted to the chairman, the treasurer and the chairman of the anniversary committee. The sponsorship of the annual celebrations and OLuT ry's sponsorship packages were briefly discussed. OLuT-Anniversary Ball will possibly be held during* the autumn of 2021.* Editor in chief of the Oluensis-magazine was chosen to be Kaarin Hälinen. Elected members of the editorial board are Markus Raatikainen, Riika Poutanen and Janne Eskelinen.
