The Department of Pharmacology, Drug Development and Therapeutics invites applications for a PhD studentship to study the molecular mechanisms of ¦Á 2-adrenoceptor signaling in vascular smooth muscle cells. The position is funded by the Academy of Finland for a period of up to four years starting in January 2009 and provides a Level 2-3 salary on the salary scale for Universities in Finland (1717-1891 ? per month plus a personal performance-based component, max. 46 %).

The research program ˇ°
¦Á 2-Adrenoceptor subtypes as drug targetsˇ± is directed by Professor Mika Scheinin. His research group provides good working conditions with modern equipment, inspiring colleagues and an international contact network. For publications, see PubMed for ˇ°Scheinin Mˇ± (most relevant paper for the current position: Eur J Pharmacol. 2008 Jun 10;587(1-3):48-56).

Applicants should hold an academic degree qualifying for postgraduate studies (MD, MSc or equivalent biomedical or Life Sciences degree). Experience in basic molecular and cell biological methods (cell and tissue culture, PCR, cloning, mutagenesis, Western blotting, immunocytochemistry) as well as skills in laboratory animal handling are appreciated. The applicant should be fluent in computer skills and in English.
