1-2 PhD positions are available in the laboratory of Johannes (Hans) N Spelbrink at the FinMIT Centre of Excellence at the Institute of Medical Technology in Tampere, Finland.

Our research focuses on various aspects of mammalian mitochondrial biology in particular mitochondrial DNA replication, repair and organization & the regulation of mitochondrial metabolism by post-translational modifications. Although research is basic in character we have a particular interest in proteins involved in human mitochondrial DNA maintenance disorders. Suitable candidates should have a demonstrable strong interest in molecular biology and/or protein biochemistry and should preferably have a completed MSc degree in a relevant research area. Candidates are expected to have good English language skills to be able to work in a highly international environment and be motivated to work in a very competitive research area.
