Undergraduate / Pro Gradu student position open in Cancer Cell Circuitry Laboratory, Translational Cancer Biology Research Program, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki.

Location: Biomedicum Helsinki

Cancer Cell Circuitry Laboratory is led by Research Director Juha Klefström and the research focuses on cancer biology, cell cycle, apoptosis and epithelial cell biology.

In this project, we are investigating especially how to exploit differential oncogene functions and vulnerabilities (e.g. cancer cell metabolism and apoptotic sensitivity) to selectively kill cancer cells. We are also developing better models for proof of concept studies, including syngraft mouse models and patient tumor derived 3D- culture models.

In our research, we use wide spectrum of lentiviral and CRISPR/Cas9 system based gene transfer techniques, genetic, biochemical and cellular analyses, various functional genomics technologies, as well as 2D- and 3D cell-based culture methods.

We are looking for an ambitious undergraduate student to join the lab as an intern with options to continue towards a Pro Gradu project. The candidate should be a student with appropriate training in life (genetics, biochemistry, physiology, molecular biology, biotech) or medical sciences. Successful candidate will be highly motivated to learn new skills and techniques and have strong interest in the field of cancer biology. Furthermore, we will prioritize students who have the license to execute animal experiments, since our current status requires also mouse work.

Please, send your application to both Juha Klefstrom (juha.klefstrom@helsinki.fi) and myself (heidi.haikala@helsinki.fi) by Feb 20th, 2016..

The application should include a CV and a cover letter describing your motivation to the open position in our lab as well as description about your previous experience on laboratory work in the field of molecular biology. Please include contact information of at least one, preferably 2 referees.
