A graduate student position in the field of Gene Expression by RNA polymerase II & RNA biology is open at Biomedicum Helsinki 1, Molecular Medicine Research Program, University of Helsinki. A strong background in molecular biology and bioinformatics is welcome. Applications are accepted on continuous basis, but the post will be filled as soon as a competitive candidate is identified.
The position is open in a recently established laboratory led by Matjaz Barboric, Ph.D. at the University of Helsinki, Biomedicum Helsinki 1, Research Programs Unit, Molecular Medicine.
The research group investigates the control of transcription elongation by RNA polymerase II, which has emerged only recently as a major regulatory step in eukaryotic gene expression. By using biochemistry, molecular biology and the tools of systems biology, we are seeking to understand the role of transcription elongation-associated kinases in mRNA genesis and processing, and the significance of RNA polymerase II elongation control in disease and development. These investigations are currently supported by the grants from the Academy of Finland, Sigrid Juselius Foundation and Research Programs Unit, University of Helsinki.
We are looking for motivated and outstanding applicants with sound academic qualifications. Candidates who received or are about to receive a Masters degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, developmental biology, bioinformatics or related fields are encouraged to apply. In addition, application from graduate students who wish to change course in their research will also be accepted. A strong background in molecular biology, independent & creative thinking, and a sincere interest in science are greatly appreciated.
Please send your application including a cover letter, CV, your research interests, and names of references and/or letters of reference to mbarboric@gmail.com.
