Dear all,

At the last OKTR meeting several things were decided that will make an impact at the end of the MSc. Tuomo is currently making changes to the departmental instructions and they will be on the web after we have agreed the exact format of the new forms, but I thought it worthwhile giving you advance warning.

1)      There will be changes in internal administration which for most students will hopefully mean the bureaucracy  at the end of the Pro Gradu will be significantly shorter.

2)      There will be a significant change in the MSc maturity test, which will hopefully make things faster (and easier).

3)      All Pro Gradu thesis and dissertations must in future also be submitted electronically in addition to the required hard copies. They will be put through the Urkland plagiarism/copying detection system before they go to examiners.

4)      There will be an internal change which means that the one year write-up rule which should be enforced to all students will actually be enforced on all students (some are still somehow slipping through the net). If you submit more than 1 year after the start of your Pro Gradu work (allowing for granted extensions) your grades will be reduced.

So 2 changes that I hope all students will view positively and 2 others that need doing.

Changes 2 and 3 will be effective from Monday 1.11.2010. Changes 1 and 4 will happen as soon as we can do them, but they will be in place by 1.11.2010 at the latest.

Best wishes,

Lloyd
