TWO POSITIONS IMMEDIATELY OPEN IN BIOMEDICUM FUNCTIONAL GENOMICS UNIT
Biomedicum Functional Genomics Unit (FuGU) is a core organization located in Biomedicum Helsinki with expertise in genome profiling and viral gene transfer technologies. FuGU provides academic and industrial clients access to a wide range of functional genomics services and customized solutions. The unit operates at the University of Helsinki under Biocentrum Helsinki and the national Biocenter Finland infrastructure network.
COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGIST position gives you an opportunity to develop your skills in a wide range of areas of genome-wide biology and functional genomics. The position involves preprocessing of genome-wide data and analysis in collaboration with Systems Biology Unit (http://www.ltdk.helsinki.fi/sysbio/) in Biomedicum. Your work will also focus on design of customer projects, development of customized data analysis services, development and implementation of quality assurance standards and reporting system, as well as management duties in development of FuGU web interface towards customers and in-house data management. The duties also include active contacting and interaction with national and international customers. Ideal candidate has a degree in science (MSc or PhD), has basic knowledge in programming and statistics and excellent team working and communication skills. Successful implementation of your tasks will require ability to work independently and in a team of scientific researchers and research assistants. A mixture of wet-lab and bioinformatics/computational skills is regarded as an advantage.
NGS PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST position includes implementation and development of nextgeneration sequencing (NGS) services together with technical personnel. FuGU has NGS Illumina technology. In the position, you will have responsibility of day-to-day genome profiling operations as well as development of novel services related to these technologies. The position requires coordination of the services, interaction with domestic and international customers, and having presentations in courses and other educational events within Bioce nter Finland network. Ideal candidate has MSc or PhD degree in genetics, molecular biology or cell biology and has excellent team working and communication skills. Successful implementation of your tasks will require ability to work independently and in a team of scientific researchers and research assistants. Strong candidate will have an experience from next-generation sequencing.
