Helsinki
University
of Helsinki, Finland
PhD
position in nanobiotechnology
Plant
virology group led by Dr. Kristiina Mäkinen at the Department of Applied
Chemistry and Microbiology is looking for a graduate student to do research on
the subject area viruses in nanobiotechnology. The Department of Applied
Chemistry and Microbiology is the largest of the nine departments of the
Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at the University of Helsinki. Research
groups at the Department work in well-equipped laboratories, which provide
excellent facilities to carry out the work.
The
PhD student will work in a project called: Plant viral particles as
nanoscaffolds for the selective attachment and presentation of enzymes on solid
supports. This project pertains to the research field of solid phase supported
biocatalysis with potential applications in the microreactor and biosensor
technologies. The intention is to study the possibilities to control the
distribution of active enzymatic systems on solid supports. This research
employs biochemical and molecular biology methods.
This
is a joint project between Dr. Mäkinen and Dr Thierry Michon at the INRA center
of Bordeaux, France. The PhD student will be supervised jointly by both
principal investigators of this project and part of the work is planned to be
carried out at Bordeaux.
