COMPUTATIONAL
BIOLOGIST POSITION IN BIOMEDICUM GENOMICS
Biomedicum
Genomics (BMGen) is a core organization located in Biomedicum Helsinki with
expertise in genome profiling and viral gene transfer technologies. BMGen
operates at the University of Helsinki and provides academic and industrial
clients access to a wide range of functional genomics services and customized
solutions. The unit currently employs staff of 13 molecular biologists, data
analysis specialists and research assistants.
Computational
biologist position is immediately available in Biomedicum Genomics. The
position gives you an opportunity to develop your skills in a wide range of
areas of genome- wide biology and functional genomics. The position involves
genome-wide data processing and analysis generated by next-generation Genome
Analyzer II sequencer and different biochip platforms. Your work will mainly
focus on data preprocessing and analysis as well as development of customized
data analysis services including interaction with national and international
customers. The position will also involve development and implementation of quality
assurance standards and reporting system, participation in design of customer
projects as well as management duties in development of BMGen web interface
towards customers and in-house data management.
Ideal
candidate has a degree in science, ideally MSc, has good programming skills,
basic knowledge on statistics, background in sequence alignment and excellent
team working and communication skills both in English and Finnish. Successful
implementation of your tasks will require ability to work independently and in
a team of scientific researchers and research assistants who will work with you
in providing and developing functional genomics products and services.
