OPEN PhD POSITION AT ÅBO AKADEMI UNIVERSITY
A PhD student position is open for motivated individual to study epithelial keratin cytoskeleton function in health and disease.
Our group is interested in epithelial cell biology with focus on keratin intermediate filaments and their role in health and disease. Keratins are cytoskeletal proteins found in epithelial cells and they have a wide range of roles in cell biology, cell signaling and protection from cell stress. Mutations in keratins cause human diseases, such as liver disease.
Current projects in the lab focus on understanding the roles and regulating of keratins in intestine, e.g. in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), protein targeting, cell proliferation/differentiation and energy metabolism. We are also interested in the role of keratins in glucose metabolism and the functions of the endocrine pancreas in relationship to diabetes.
Successful applicants should have a Masters degree or shortly receive one in cell biology, biochemistry, biosciences or related disciplines. Positions are available immediately and candidates will be considered until the positions are filled. We are looking for motivated candidates interested in joining our team. Projects have currently funding from the Juselius Foundation, The Academy of Finland and European Union Marie Curie actions.
