Subject: [Bilsa] Biotieteilijöille ilmaisia FM-nettikursseja: Internet Courses on Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics
To: "bilsa@lists.oulu.fi" <bilsa@lists.oulu.fi>

Hei,

Meidän opiskelijoista muutama on suorittanut tuon Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics 7,5 op opintojakson, mutta katsokaa itse miltä nuo kaksi muuta vaikuttaa (onko itsellä riittäviä pohjia ym.)

Minulta voitte hakea maksetun kirjekuoren postitusta varten.

Ko. opintojaksot hyväksiluetaan maisterivaiheen syventäviksi opinnoiksi (eläinfysiologia, genetiikka tai kasvifysiologia).

terv. Minna

Dear Colleague,

I send information on our Internet based course on Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics (7.5 ECT credits), which you also find here: www.pharmbio.org , and which is now open for registration.

The course is an introduction to Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics, which is a new discipline in the area of the genomics revolution, and which aims to merge the biological and chemical worlds by informatics technology.

Moreover, on request of many previous participants we now offer two additional courses:

I.  Applied Structural Pharmaceutical Bioinformatis (5 ECTS credits) II. Applied Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics (5 ECTS credits)

(see http://www.pharmbio.org/pages/other_courses  for further information).

Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics is a new discipline in the genomics revolution that has immense impact on the chemical, biological and biomedical areas, where molecular interactions and molecular change are involved, and it teaches how modern chemobioinformatics methods can be used to analyze biology down to its finest chemical detail and how this can be used to bridge the biological world with the chemical one based on the achievements of the genomics revolution. An obvious example is the design of new drugs and understanding their functions, but the field is not limited to this as all biological events do in fact have a chemical origin.

On top of this the field is highly interdisciplinary with research problems in areas like informatics and mathematical statistics, for those that have such interests.

The knowledge taught in the courses lies in the frontier of that warranted by the pharmacy industry today, and is also an opening for performing research in the area.

Course literature for the course is the textbook: "Introduction to Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics" (ISBN 978-91-979403-0-6).

The courses are suited for students, researchers, teachers and professionals in the biological, chemical, biomedical and pharmaceutical fields and other disciplines with an interest in the area, and is completely free of charge for citizens of EU/EAA and Switzerland. Our courses have met with great success and now host more than 500 Swedish and international students from academia and industry each year.

The next course is scheduled for start on January 19, 2015 and runs over 10 weeks at half speed. The course scheme is very flexible and does not require any fixed hours. In fact, many of our students successfully run the course at the side of their other studies or full-time work.

The courses are eligible for ECTS credits, the ECTS being the standard for comparing the study attainment and performance of students of higher education across the European Union and collaborating European countries.

As our courses are very popular they tend to get full fast. I therefore recommend that you sign up early at www.pharmbio.org to be able to participate.

If you have any questions regarding the courses I am at your disposal.

Moreover, as we have difficulties to reach out to all students, I would appreciate very much if you could forward this mail to students and others that you think might be interested in our courses.

To attend anyone of the courses, please sign up at www.pharmbio.org and you will receive further information how to attend the courses.

(PLEASE OBSERVE THAT THE APPLICATION PERIOD FOR THE COURSES OF THE FIRST SEMESTER NEXT YEAR ENDS ON OCTOBER 15, 2014. IT IS THEREFORE IMPORTANT THAT YOU MEET THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND. FULL INSTRUCTIONS WILL BE MAILED TO YOU AFTER YOU HAVE SIGNED UP ATT WWW.PHARMBIO.ORG).

All my best regards
