Subject: [Bco] PhD student position (biologist or chemist) at the University of Eastern Finland

We are looking for a biologist (or chemist) for a project called “Impacts of mire restoration on aquatic ecosystems: Biodegradation of leached organic compounds, microbial production and carbon dioxide efflux”.

The study starts in the beginning of 2010, is projected to last three years and

is executed in Joensuu at the University of Eastern Finland. It is financed by the Maj and Tor Nessling Foundation which provides a stipend (18300€) for a PhD student. Your aim is to study quantity and quality of dissolved organic carbon compounds leaching from different type of natural and restored mires and find out how easily they decompose and are utilised by microbes under different nutrient availability and climatic conditions. If you have laboratory skills and you are motivated to write a PhD thesis, you could be the right person. Our team provides you the facilities and skilled supervision in mire ecology, water chemistry and biology as well as carbon and nitrogen

cycling in ecosystems.

If you became interested in, please, send an application in which you describe your education (including the list of passed courses with scores and certificate), experience in research and scientific writing, contact information of your referees and why you would be the right choice.

Applications should be sent electronically for the following address:

sanna.saarnio@joensuu.fi before the end of December 2009.

Please, contact if you need further information.
