PhD. student: PhD. position is available at the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC), Brno, Czech Republic

Project information:

A PhD. position is available at the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC), Brno, Czech Republic, in the newly established group of Dalibor Blazek (lab pages at: http://www.ceitec.eu/programs/molecular-medicine/inherited-diseases-ii-transcriptional-regulation/ ). The project focuses on transcription cycle-related cyclin-dependent kinases (mainly Cdk9 and Cdk12) involved in the regulation of gene transcription by RNA Polymerase II and their roles in modulation of DNA damage responses (see our recent paper: Blazek et al., Genes and Development. 2011; 25(20):2158-72).

The successful candidate will join a team of young motivated people dedicated to understand mechanisms of control of gene expression by RNA Polymerase II. Our final goal is to understand how deregulation of the gene expression mechanisms lead to the onset of cancer. Our projects are currently funded by CEITEC and grants from the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research based in the US.

Requirements:

The candidate must be highly motivated, self-driven with an excellent academic record and hold a Masterīs degree (or be close to its completion) in molecular biology, biochemistry or in a related field of life sciences.  Applicant must have a strong interest in molecular biology; interest in bioinformatics and cancer biology is a big plus. Good communication and interpersonal skills and fluency in spoken and written English are required. Expected start date is summer of 2013 or upon agreement.

Please send application (including CV, short statement of research background/ interests and the contact information of at least two references) by email to Dr. Dalibor Blazek at dblazek(at)med.muni.cz.
