PhD student for the White biotechnology/Green
Chemistry Centre of Excellence programme at the VTT Biotechnology Cluster
Function: Biotechnology
Job description: To strengthen our research in the White biotechnology Centre of Excellence programme, we are looking for a motivated PhD student to conduct research related to enzymatic conversion of biomass based sugars. The work includes expression, characterisation and engineering of the enzymes, and applying them in metabolic engineering of yeast. The position is initially a two-year fixed -term of employment but an opportunity for a longer period of employment exists, including working in France.
Expectations.
We require an MSc degree (or equivalent) in biotechnology, biochemistry,
microbiology or in related biosciences field. We expect an interest in
scientific research and the determination to complete a PhD. Experience in
heterologous expression and mutagenesis of proteins, protein purification and
chemistry as well as in enzymology are considered beneficial. You are
pro-active, and work well as part of a team. We expect willingness to conduct
part of your PhD studies at INRA, in Toulouse, France. Good knowledge of
English, both written and spoken, is expected.
We offer challenging and interesting tasks using state-of-the-art equipment, as
well as an opportunity to complete a PhD degree in an international research
project presenting scientific challenges.
