A doctoral student position is open at the Institute of Biomedicine, University of Turku, Finland in the research group led by Professor Klaus Elenius.
The position in the project “Regulated Intramembrane Proteolysis in Receptor Tyrosine Kinase-driven
Tumor Growth” will be initially agreed for the period 1.5.2014 - 31.12.2016 (starting time can be negotiated). The contract can be extended.
The work of a doctoral student includes completing a thesis according to a plan made together with the supervisor and take part in studies (lectures and courses)
required for the PhD degree. In addition the doctoral student will take part in the teaching (max. 5% of the official work-time). Also other research related tasks set by the supervisor may be involved.
A doctoral student should have completed higher university degree (MSc, MD or similar) in a compatible research field (bioscience or medicine). In addition, capability
and motivation for PhD studies has to be proven.
The research project includes analysis of molecular mechanisms by which growth factor receptors drive tumor growth. The applicant is expected to have basic skills
in cell and molecular biology, and the qualification to educate oneself in the field using scientific literature. Previous research experience and publications supporting this project will be of benefit for the applicant as well as appropriate social skills
and capability to work as a member of a research team in academic environment. Applications from students with background in bioinformatics are also welcome.
The salary for a doctoral student will be according to the task levels 1-4 for research and teaching personnel in the University Salary system (1767,97-2432,20
€ / month). In addition a surplus based on the personal performance level, which is at maximum 46,3% of the task level will be paid. Trial period will be 3 months.
