Position of Early Stage Researcher (PhD studentships) at VESSEL, Kari Alitalo lab, Biomedicum Helsinki

A graduate student position is available in the Marie Curie VESSEL Network laboratory. Recruitment within ITN-VESSEL aims to fulfil the equal opportunity objectives of the Marie Curie program and hence applications are welcomed from applicants regardless of gender, nationality (subject to relevant immigration formalities), ethnic origin, and from individuals wishing to resume research careers after a break.

We are looking for young dedicated individuals interested in developmental, molecular and cell biology with proof of high academic achievements. The selection is based on the applicant’s ability to successfully pursue the research education. Special emphasis is put on the applicant’s knowledge and skills within the subject area, ability to express her/himself verbally and in writing, analytical aptitude, creativity, initiative and independence, and a capacity for working together with other researchers. The evaluation will be made based on the relevance of past education and experience, grades from previous university courses (in particular at the advanced level), the quality and ambition of the independent project work, references, a cover letter motivating the candidate’s interest, and interviews.

Early-stage researchers must, at the time of recruitment by the host organisation be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree. Full-time equivalent research experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree which would formally entitle him or her to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the researcher is recruited or seconded, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is or was ever envisaged.

Mobility rule. Researchers are required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e. move from one country to another) when taking up their appointment. At the time of recruitment by the host organisation, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account.

Annual salaries

Brussels rate 38 000 Euros per annum to be modified by the EC country coefficient and Finnish employee costs.
