With us you will be responsible for
We are looking for a computational biologist for eukaryotic micro-organisms. The position includes processing of systems biology, genomics and metabolomics data with bioinformatics methods, and creation of mathematical models from systems-wide data. We expect you to develop VTT’s competence in computational biology connected to microbial production processes. You should have basic skills in coding with R, Python and Matlab. Experience in Next Generation Sequencing data handling is a plus.

 

We expect you to have
You should have basic skills in coding with R, Python and Matlab. Experience in Next Generation Sequencing data handling is a plus. Both MSc and PhDs are invited to apply. MSc applicants are expected to extend their studies towards a PhD while working at VTT.

We expect you to have competence in at least a few of the following topics:

• Analysis of systems biology data
• Metabolic modelling
• Biochemistry
• Microbial bioprocess engineering
• Industrial biotechnology

You are keen to learn new things, determined and ambitious. You are a team player. Good skills in spoken and written English are required. Additionally, the candidate must be ready to develop new skills.

 

We offer
The starting date preferably in the autumn of 2016. The position offers an opportunity to gain experience and excel in the areas of systems biology and synthetic biology as well as work together with an international group of researchers from two Academy of Finland Centres of Excellence: White Biotechnology – Green Chemistry (2008-2013) and Molecular Engineering of Biosynthetic Hybrid Materials Research (2014-2019).
