position for DNA sequence analysis
A
bioinformatics specialist position is immediately available in Biomedicum
Helsinki for DNA sequence analysis. A position includes data pre- processing,
process development and analysis of sequence data produced by Solexa Genome
Analyzer II sequencer. The position is offered jointly by Biomedicum Genomics
(BMGen) and Computational Systems Biology Laboratory (CSBL). BMGen is a
research oriented core organization, which develops integrated microarray-,
deep sequencing, lentiviral RNAi- and other modern genomics technologies to
boost genomics research and to provide new type of services nationwide. CSBL is
a research group that focuses on
developing
computational methods and applying them to biomedical data, and provides
bioinformatics services and tools nationwide.
DNA
sequencing with Illumina Solexa is a state-of-the-art methodology for de novo
and re-sequencing, mRNA and miRNA expression profiling, DNA copy number
analysis and for mapping transcription factor binding sites. A
Solexa
run produces a large number of 35-100 bp reads and therefore a strong
computational expertise is required.
Ideal
candidate has a degree in science, ideally MSc, and has background in sequence
alignment/string matching algorithms; has good programming skills, basic
knowledge on statistics and strong communication skills in English and Finnish.
The position is immediately available. The salary is dependent on the qualifications
of the successful applicant (starting range 1900-2400EUR/month). An application
